Gloucester City Legends side will reunite for a Battle of the Balls charity game for Rugby For Heroes in May.

The game being played at Hartpury University on Sunday 17 May sees Ken Blackburn and Lee Randall join together in the dugout with a former City squad including names like Tom Webb, Lee Smith, Neil Mustoe, Marc Richards, Darren Mullings, Chris Burns, Tommy Callinan and Matt Rose.

Opposite Blackburn and Lee Randall will be actor Jason Burrill, DIY SOS presenter Nick Knowles, former professional rugby players Thinus Delport and Mark Atkinson and golf analyst Mark Roe.

The team includes former Wales winger Shane Williams MBE, former France flanker Serge Betsen and former Lydney RFC coach, Ashley Howells.

City Legends have played a number of charity matches over the last few seasons, including a game against a Rugby For Heroes XI at Meadow Park a few years ago and a game against Manchester United legends more recently.

Speaking to Severn Sport about the upcoming game next month, Blackburn reiterated how much the former City players enjoy the occasions where they can reunite and help raise money for good causes both locally and wider charities.

“We are all really looking forward to another game with our Rugby Legends counterparts,” said Blackburn.

“These charity games mean so much to us all and the good causes the proceeds will help going forward. We have a great affinity with Gloucester City, having all played and represented this club at various stages of our careers.

The opposition looks exciting, with a number of rugby legends and celebrities set to be in attendance. Let’s hope we can get some great support from both sets of supporters for what is always a very worthwhile charity event,” Blackburn added.
