Fin Byrnes believes Stonehouse Town will go into their play-off final next Friday full of confidence after Tuesday night’s Semi Final win.

Byrnes put in a Man of the Match display as Stonehouse secured a 3-1 win in their Hellenic League Division One play-off Semi Final at Bewdley Town.

Late goals from Alfie Mann and Jamol Dare saw the Magpies set up a home final against Malmesbury Victoria on Friday 1 May and the morning after the night before, Byrnes admitted Stonehouse went into the game full of confidence and belief.

“We are all absolutely buzzing, nights like this are why we do it,” said Byrnes. “I thought we were superb on the night – obviously it’s tough conceding as late as we did, but to go again and get two late goals is credit to the attitude and talent of this group.

The message [before the game] was to just keep doing what we’ve been doing. We beat them a few weeks back, so we knew the threat that they could bring, but we dealt with that brilliantly.

Our intensity levels and quality have only got better as the season has gone on, so every game we’re feeling confident and last night was no different,” Byrnes added.

Byrnes joined the Magpies from local rivals Shortwood United in the summer and whilst he has had a disrupted season due to injury, he is coming into form at the right time of the season and believes he can continue to make an impact in the final.

“My form is very pleasing. I had a slow start to the season due to a big injury, but the last couple of months have been good for me.

You want to make an impact when moving clubs and I’m glad that’s happening at the right time,” said Byrnes.

Stonehouse Town’s form going into the play-offs has been superb, with six wins from their last eight matches of the season and will host a Malmesbury side who did beat Stonehouse in August – but Adam Coyle’s men have had a great home campaign, having only lost two league matches at the Ben’s Takeway Stadium all season.

There is a gap of just over a week until the final, but Byrnes believes his side will repay the great support the team have had all season in the final.

“Of course being at home is key, they’re a good side so any advantage we can get is important,” said Byrnes.

“The support last night was class and really got us over the line when we needed it, so hopefully the noise and numbers are there next week and we can get the job done,” Byrnes added.
