Cheltenham Civil Service Ladies Manager Maxine Greenwood has praised her side following a week of celebrations, but has reminded them that there are still two huge games left in their season.

Civvy tasted silverware for the first time this season last Thursday, wining 3-0 in the GFA Women’s Challenge Cup final at Bishops Cleeve – before an injury time winner saw them move to within four points of the GCWFL Division Two title.

Following the league win against Newent Town Women on Sunday, Greenwood praised her side for being able to celebrate the cup success and have the ability to keep going until the very end 72 hours later.

“To lift the County Cup and then follow it up just three days later with a 2-1 win over 3rd place Newent Town makes for a week of celebrations,” said Greenwood.

“It’s the outcome the girls had worked so hard towards and the late winner just proves that no matter how tired the girls were following the final, they don’t give up!” Greenwood added.

Civvy have two league games remaining and know that four points from trips to North Bristol Wanderers and Ellwood Ladies in the next two weekend’s will see them crowned Champions and secure their return to Division One after last season’s relegation.

Ahead of the two final games, Greenwood reiterates the importance of not getting complacent and making sure they finish the job after a great league campaign.

“It’s absolutely crucial [to not be complacent], we’ve worked too hard to let anything slip now,” Greenwood said.

“We’ve got two big games left and we need to remain focused and disciplined and stick to what’s got us here. The job isn’t done yet, and the players know that – but they’re certainly good enough to win this title!” Greenwood added.

If Civvy show their quality and finish the job then it sees them bounce back from a season of disruption last year that saw them finish bottom of Division One having only won one match.

To now be where they are 12 months on has shown that Civvy are back to their best and Greenwood has praised her squad for sticking together and showing how good they can be.

“I’m unbelievably proud of the girls, the turnaround from last season to now has been massive, and that’s down to the strength, depth, and determination of the whole squad.

We were down on our luck last season with injury after injury, but to be where we are now going into the final two games is fully deserved, and it says a lot about these girls – they’ll give it their all as they always do!” Greenwood said.
