Longlevens Reserves close gap to leaders with win over Bredon

Longlevens Reserves moved up to 2nd in the Gloucestershire Northern Senior League Division One table with a 3-1 win over Bredon on Tuesday night.
Going into the game eight points behind leaders Whaddon United, Longlevens knew they needed to reduce the gap as much as possible ahead of their blockbuster trip to Whaddon next midweek.
Bredon arrived unbeaten in six though, having not lost a game since January, but Brad Martin’s 8th minute opener had the hosts ahead.
The visitors responded with a well taken Ollie Nicholls effort five minutes later, but Rio Spencer’s penalty and Alex Knight’s tap in was enough to see the hosts get back to winning ways after two games without a win.
Both sides’ next game is a trip to Brockworth Albion, with Levens heading there this weekend and Bredon heading to Mill Lane next Saturday.

The game at Saw Mills saw Levens strike with the first real effort of the game, as Ollie Morrissey produced a stunning diagonal ball into Brad Martin, who took it down beautifully before slotting past Dan Johns.
But credit to Bredon, they responded quickly. Ollie Nicholls and Elliott Miles-Kingston both showed great pace to get in either side for the visitors and it was the former who held off his man in the box, before cutting onto his right foot and firing past Jack Sargent.
Miles-Kingston was nearly sent through on goal on half an hour, but Sargent came flying off his line to collect before the winger could get there.
Sargent had to be alert again just before half time, sliding out of goal to beat Ben Turner to a through ball – with Levens going down the other end but Theo Bevan fired wide after the ball came loose to him on the edge of the box.
Bevan had the final chance of the half, but saw his effort saved by Johns.
A slow second half burst into life just before the hour mark when Rylan Snelgrove was tripped in the box and Rio Spencer stepped up to fire his penalty into the top corner.
Levens scored their second in five minutes when Alex Knight came off the bench to tap home with effectively his first touch.
Once again Ollie Morrissey played a beautiful ball into the box, with Toby Summers heading down across goal for Knight to turn home from close range.
From there the hosts managed the game and chances were few and far between for both sides, with Fin Rankin squandering two openings, before he slid through for Morrissey who fired over in the final 10 minutes.
Levens find themselves five points behind with two games in hand, but know a defeat at Whaddon next Wednesday night could curtail any title aspirations.
