Severn Sport Team of the Month w/ Murdock & Wasley – July 2026

The Severn Sport Team of the Month is here once again!

The Severn Sport Team of the Month includes players that have stood-out in the featured games during the previous month.

In May, we saw 11 games in pre-season this year including the Boots vs Scrubs Charity match and they were:

Saturday 18 July – Barnwood United 2-4 Quedgeley Wanderers
Sunday 19 July – Boots 3-6 Scrubs

Friday 24 July – Longlevens Reserves 4-0 Lydney Town Reserves
Saturday 25 July – Barnwood United 3-0 Old Richians

Goalkeeper – Jamie Downer (Boots) – Downer was superb in the first half of the Boots vs Scrubs charity game and kept the score respectable at half time. I was told after the game he has been out of football for a few years and that makes the showing even more impressive!

Right Back – Ben Minnican (Chalford) – Another player who has been out of football for 15 months, but after swinging by for a visit from Australia, Minnican rocks up and puts in a beautiful cross for a winning goal in a really entertaining friendly – what a player.

Centre Back – Callum McLean (Tuffley Rovers) – McLean is in my 5 Hellenic League players to watch and his showing against Gloucester City was part of why. He is set for a big season and could end up playing the majority of games. Playing in front of Luke Merchant and alongside Eli Simpson should see him elevate his game as well.

Centre Back – Joe Braisby (Barnwood United) – Braisby was outstanding in all three Barnwood matches I saw. Assured at the back with two or three different centre back partners and he looked really good against County League level attackers and an Old Richians side that included Jake Lowe. One to watch in GNSL One for me.

Left Back – Joe Richards (Cheltenham Saracens) – Joe Richards is shoe-horned in at left back here, but it is because he scored against Slimbridge from left wing back and I never need an excuse to include him in the squad. A terrific player that looked up for it on the opening day of pre-season.

Right Wing – Fletcher Martin (Quedgeley Wanderers) – During the game at Barnwood, Beckem Foley came over and asked me who my MOTM was on the day and it was Fletcher Martin. A goal and assists after his side were 2-0 down was eye-catching, but his overall play on the right hand side impressed me.

Centre Midfield – Dylan Venn (Quedgeley Wanderers) – Venn was superb in the middle for Quedgeley and was up against Josh Tarrant, who is very unlucky himself to not be included in the TOTM. In the second half Venn won everything in the air, won his 50/50s and showed his leadership when surrounded by younger players.

Centre Midfield – Kaya Demirok (Longlevens Reserves) – Kaya turned up in the friendly against his hometown Lydney side and played like he had a point to prove. He dominated the midfield and scored a really smart goal in an impressive first half. He could be a huge player for Craig Martin & Ben Symons’ side this season.

Left Wing – Igs Corriea Gouveia (Scrubs/Old Richians) – Igs was one of the best players on the pitch during the Boots vs Scrubs game and was one of my Players of the Match alongside Downer and he showed promise for Old Richians after signing for them. Given the players in Rob Lacey’s squad and fact he is coming into a really good forward line, he could have a really good season for Richians.

Forward – Ryan Dobbins (Cheltenham Saracens) – First day of pre-season and Dobbins claims a hattrick against a side two levels above. That speaks volumes enough, but it was the way he took his goals that really stood out for me, smart turn in the box and a quick finish, showing pace to get in the box to head home and then opening his body up to curl into the top corner. He has since scored a couple more as the month has gone on, so he is primed for the league opener.

Forward – Harley Hudd (Stonehouse Town) – Similarly to Dobbins, Hudd scored a hattrick against Gloucester City Reserves and again it was the way he took his goals that was impressive. He then scored against Slimbridge on Tuesday night to cap off a really good performance. Like Callum McLean, he is one of my Hellenic League players to watch and for good reason.

This month’s team will be managed by Barnwood United Manager Hayden Rust after his side geared up to their first GNSL Division One season with three really good showings against good opposition.
