LISTEN: Wickwar Wanderers book place in Reg Davis Cup final after shootout with Tuffley Reserves

Wickwar Wanderers booked their place in the Reg Davis Cup final by beating Tuffley Rovers Reserves on penalties, following their 3-3 draw in Wednesday night’s Semi Final.

An early strike from Tom Backx had the Division One side ahead, before Rob Haines slotted home a second with just over ten minutes to go until half time.

But Kam Dix reduced arrears before half time, with Rovers seemingly completing the comeback after goals from Jake Wellington and substitute Oliver Hambling.

However Wickwar would take the thriller into penalties through Pete Smith’s third goal in the competition and after misses from Brett James and Byron Lloyd – Louis Totterdell took the opportunity to send his side into the final.

Wickwar will play the winners of the second Semi Final, between Whaddon United and Gala Wilton, in the final – expected to be at Stonehouse Town’s Ben’s Takeaway Stadium in October.

Whaddon United vs Gala Wilton takes place at Longlevens’ Saw Mills ground next Wednesday evening (9 September) and is live on Severn Sport.
