Gloucester City manager Mike Cook has called for patience during the pre-season ahead of the 2024/25 season, whilst acknowledging the optimism and expectations on his side.

City will be starting a season in the Southern League for the first time since 2009, following their relegation from the National League North back in April – but thanks to some eye-catching recruitment, Gloucester will certainly be one of the favourites for promotion.

Former players in Kieran Phillips, Kev Dawson and Ed Williams are amongst the names of the newest recruits over the summer, whilst Brandon Smalley and Ty Duffus are the latest players to finalise their stay at the TigerTurf Stadium.

And with pre-season getting underway for Cook’s side on Tuesday 2 July, with a home game against local side Longlevens, the City manager spoke to Severn Sport about the summer, listening to the fans, handling expectation, the importance of having an U18s and the partnership with Gala Wilton, as well as looking to build relationships with other local sides during pre-season.
