LISTEN AGAIN: Longlevens suffer injury time heartbreak in Worcester for second time in three days
A 97th minute header from Zaq Hussain saw Longlevens suffer their second injury time defeat at Sixways Stadium in three days, losing 2-1 to Worcester Raiders on Tuesday night.
Hussain came off the bench to open the scoring for his side with just under twenty minutes to go, before popping up with a stoppage time effort to inflict another agonising defeat in Worcester.
The defeat comes just days after Levens suffered the same fate in the 12th minute of added time in their 2-1 loss to Worcester City – however both games produced spirited performances from Michael Palmer and Craig Martin’s side.
A game that saw both sides wasteful in the final third saw Ash Wintle make good saves to deny Jordan Murphy and Jordan Edwards in the first half, with Thomas Hayward denying Josh Barlow’s low effort for Longlevens after the break.
Then, former Worcester City forward Hussain was brought onto the field and he broke the deadlock on 72 minutes, beating the offside trap before lobbing Wintle from the edge of the box.
But Levens hung in there and levelled through Harrison Iddles’ unstoppable volley from the left corner of the box, seven minutes later.
However, just as it looked like the visitors had claimed a crucial point, they were made to pay for Ollie Long’s sinbin, as Hussain nodded home in the dying embers of the game.
The win takes Worcester Raiders up to 8th place in the Hellenic Premier table, however with only five games left of their campaign, the play-offs seem to remain nothing more than distant dream.
For Longlevens, their form continues to look sorry, having lost eight of their last nine matches in all competitions – although they will play a lot worse than they did on Tuesday night.
Next up for Levens is a home fixture against Pershore Town on Saturday, before trips to Highworth Town and Hereford Lads Club.
