LISTEN AGAIN: Chalford secure promotion to County League with convincing win over Filton
Chalford sealed their promotion to the Gloucestershire County League thanks to a fairly comfortable 2-0 win over Filton Athletic.
Goals in either half from Ben Minnican corners were enough to see Ben Powell’s side secure their spot in the County League after winning the GNSL Division One title on Monday night.
Brad Moore’s header put his side deservedly ahead, before a Jack Coles own goal gave Filton too much to do on an afternoon that saw Chalford’s back three stand out as being particularly impressive.
Luke Benneyworth secured his second C Martin Roofing Man of the Match in a week, with co-Commentator Sam Prior particularly impressed with the central defender’s performance.
The win comes 12 months after Chalford suffered the heartbreak of play-off defeats – losing to Hanham Athletic and Avonmouth, with the latter going on to win the County League this season.
Saturday’s win means Chalford will join the likes of Quedgeley Wanderers, Sharpness, Cheltenham Civil Service, Broadwell Amateurs and Ruardean Hill Rangers in being “proper Gloucestershire” representatives in a Bristol-dominated division.
It is set to be a summer of change, with Bens Powell and Newman set to step away from their roles.
