Bishops Cleeve duo Lewis Clayton and Toby Holland are the latest two players shortlisted in the Severn Sport End of Season Awards 2023/24.

Every year Severn Sport looks to recognise all of those players, managers, clubs and individuals who make grassroots football in Gloucestershire special!

Yesterday we announced that George Neill and Erin Read were shortlisted for two awards each, and now it is the turn of Bishops Cleeve’s goalkeeper and midfielder to take centre stage.

Clayton is regarded as one of the best goalkeepers in the county and is predictably nominated for Kinetic Goalkeeping Goalkeeper of the Season, whilst Toby Holland has been nominated for Breakthrough Player of the Season and the Men’s Player of the Season after scoring 15 goal in 30 appearances for the Mitres this season.

Clayton and Holland join Butler’s nominations in the shortlist for the live awards show on Severn Sport, on Sunday 26 May.

Speaking about the latest nominees to come completely from the public nominations, Butler had this to say:

“I fully expected Lewis to be nominated for this award, as he is one of the best goalkeepers we have in the County.

Some goalkeepers are good “shot-stoppers” but Lewis has more to his all-round game than a lot of goalkeepers we see each season.

Lewis is highly thought of at Bishops Cleeve and you can see why, great on the field and a great character off it.

Being honest, I know very limited about Toby Holland. I have never spoken to him and I have only seen him play a couple of times.

But I have read his story on Gloucestershire Live earlier this year and when you read that he fell out of love with football, to come back and perform as well as he did is great -especially when you see how many nominations he received and how much appreciation Bishops Cleeve fans have for his efforts this season.

Congratulations to both and to all of the Bishops Cleeve lads for a great season.”

Check back tomorrow morning when we will be announcing the next batch of nominees in this year’s End of Season Awards!
