Newent Devs score five to continue good season in Hellenic Division Two West
Newent Town Development secured a back to back league double over Gloucester City Development, winning 5-2 at the TigerTurf Stadium on Friday night.
First half goals from Taylor Unett and Jack Jeremiah, either side of an Adam Milne equaliser, had the visitors ahead at the break – before Solomon Osinuga added a third from the spot and set up a fourth for Ryan Hunt.
Milne pulled one back for City, before Osinuga added his second to cap off a good win for Shaun Norville’s side.
It is Newent Development’s fifth league win of the season and it sees them move onto a record of only one defeat in their last eight league matches.
And with seven league games remaining, Newent Development have already recorded more wins than their last two seasons combined, in an incredible turnaround this campaign.
Their next two league games see them go head-to-head with the Division Two West top two, giving Norville’s side a chance to see where they stand against Tuffley Rovers Development and Fairford Town Reserves.
Newent took the lead on 23 minutes as Taylor Unett rose highest to head home from a corner, although their lead only last four minutes.
A ball in from the left was spilled by Newent keeper, Jonty Scott, and Milne tapped home to restore parity.
But just after the half hour mark, Jack Jeremiah unleashed an unstoppable effort from distance to send his side into the break back in front.
Ryan Hunt slipped in Unett down the right side of the City box just before the hour mark, and after Unett was tripped in the box, substitute Solomon Osinuga stepped up to extend the visitors’ lead.
Osinuga then turned provider for Hunt to slip home a fourth, after Osinuga dribbled from his own half and laid the ball into Hunt’s path.
Newent were doing a good job at keeping their hosts at an arms length, but were punished after overplaying on the left side of their own box – with Milne on hand to sweep home his second of the night.
But in injury time, Osinuga had the final say by toe poking home after Newent won the ball on the edge of the City box.
Newent will be delighted with their performance, as well as the result, whilst Gloucester City will still be able to take positives from a tough 90 minutes.
Both sides are away from home next weekend, with Newent heading to Tuffley Rovers Development and City heading to Cinderford Town Reserves.
