Shortwood United goalkeeper Billy Thomas is set to join Southern League Premier side Swindon Supermarine, Severn Sport understands.

The 19-year old only moved to Meadowbank in the summer, following a double winning first season in men’s football at Chalford – but it seems he is set to link up with Dan Gillespie for the second time this campaign.

Thomas has already made 26 appearances for the Hellenic Division One side this term, with Shortwood set to retain the keeper’s Hellenic League registration.

This has followed an incredible season at Chalford, which saw Thomas play a key role in a Gloucestershire Northern Senior League Division One and Reg Davis Cup winning season, which ultimately saw the young keeper finish runner-up in the Goalkeeper of the Season in the Severn Sport End of Season Awards.

The Southern League side experienced a tough start to their 2023/24 campaign, but are experiencing a revival under new manager, Stuart Fleetwood and his Assistant, Gillespie – including five wins out of their last six league fixtures.

Marine confirmed on Friday that goalkeeper, Louis Evans, would be leaving the club to join Hartley Wintney in the Isthmian League for the remainder of the season and they have made an approach for Thomas to join their ranks.

Next up for Swindon Supermarine is a trip to Poole Town on Saturday (20 January) before heading to Hungerford Town the following weekend.
