Sam’s Section: Shortwood and Stonehouse meet for tasty derby whilst Forest Green hunt ten unbeaten in live National League clash
After a week that saw so many fixtures fall victim to Storm Darragh, it’s time for the football to kick back off again with some fantastic match-ups this weekend.
Gloucestershire sees live coverage at The New Lawn as strugglers visit Nailsworth and a tasty derby day takes over Ben’s Takeaway Stadium on Saturday.
Forest Green Rovers v Boston United (National League, The New Lawn, Saturday December 14th, KO 5:30pm Live on DAZN)
Forest Green Rovers aim to make it 10 National League games unbeaten on Saturday when they welcome strugglers Boston United to The New Lawn.
It’s a streak that stretches all the way back to September when Rovers were narrowly defeated 1-0 at Oldham Athletic.
Rovers come into this clash off the back of advancing in the FA Trophy last weekend beating Braintree Town on penalties.
Stormy and frosty conditions have stalled Rovers winning run drawing the last three games in all competitions, but Rovers will be hoping to replicate their trip to Lincolnshire earlier this season.
Braces from Christian Doidge and Liam Sercombe secured Rovers opening victory of the league campaign in August but it was more memorable for Sercombe’s goal from half way.
Stonehouse Town v Shortwood United (Hellenic League Division One, Ben’s Takeaway Stadium, Saturday December 14th, KO 3pm)
It’s derby day at Ben’s Takeaway Stadium as Stonehouse Town take on Shortwood United for the fourth time this season.
The two sides have already clashed swords on three occassions this campaign, once in the league, Challenge Trophy and the Marsh Challenge Cup.
Stonehouse took the bragging rights in the league at the start of the season, but Shortwood boast came out on top in both cup competitions advancing on penalties in the Challenge Cup and 2-1 winners in the Challenge Trophy.
Shortwood head into this in fine form losing one of their last 12 games in all competitions and currently occupy a play-off spot with a win potentially boosting them up to fourth.
Wood also claimed a massive 4-1 win over Hartpury University in the County Cup, so confidence will be high in the camp ahead of this one.
Stonehouse sit mid-table in the Hellenic Div One and come into this one off the back of an agonising 5-4 defeat to Clanfield 85 on Tuesday night but have lost just three of their last 12 matches in all competitions.
Ryan will be at the Ben’s Takeaway Stadium to provide live updates of the action on the Severn Sport account!
