Golding treble helps Gloucester City Women score double digits again
Chloe Golding scored three as Gloucester City Women scored double digits for the second week in a row – beating St Vallier Ladies 11-1 at the TigerTurf Stadium.
Golding and Paige Todd put in Player of the Match performances as Chris Hill’s side remained top of the South West Regional League Division One North table with a convincing display.
City were reduced to ten at 2-0, when Laina Warren was sent off for foul and abusive language towards an official – but the hosts would score five more times to lead 7-0 at the break.
Sachi Kaneko-Grun had opened the scoring on 16 minutes, with Todd sliding an effort past Katelyn Darbon two minutes later.
Warren was dismissed following her reaction to an offside decision, with the referee informing the City bench that foul and abusive language was the reason for the red.
But even with a player advantage, City continued to turn the screw and scored five goals in the final 15 minutes of the half.
Golding grabbed two in four minutes, bursting through on goal and finishing calmly, before sweeping home from inside the box moments later.
Todd’s whipped effort from the left was divert in off a St Vallier head, with the winger looking to claim it as the ball in was heading towards goal.
Lucabella Davis was the latest player to burst through on goal two minutes before half time, before finishing past Darbon, with Kaneko-Grun rounding the keeper and tapping home in the final minute of the half.
The second half saw City continue to put their foot down and full back Daniela Soave was pushed further forward, but she hit the post with her first effort of the game.
Soave then crossed from the right for substitute Sophia Gomez to head home just after the hour mark, before another Soave cross was turned home by Golding to secure her hattrick.
Todd stood a cross up to the back post with twenty minutes to go, to allow Nalani Lasmarias a chance to head home from within the six yard – a chance she duly obliged in taking. 10-0.
But credit to St Vallier, they went down the other end and got themselves on the scoreboard, with Keziah Welsh holding off her marker and blasting past Sam Linteo.
The hosts would have the final say though, with Soave finally getting her goal with seven minutes left on the clock, blasting home after battling past two defenders.
City’s win keeps them top of the tree by a point, with a whopping +19 goal difference already at this early stage.
Next up for Chris Hill’s side is a trip to Royal Wootton Bassett Town next weekend, whilst 3rd place St Vallier host Corsham Town next Sunday.
