Gloucester City Women three points closer to the league title after a 6-0 win against Downend Flyers

League-leaders Gloucester City Women took all three points and maintain their unbeaten run with a 6-0 win over Downend Flyers at Pomphrey Hill Playing Fields, writes Abi Harding.
Goals from Maggie Neall, Puneet Randhawa, Luca Davis and Sophia Gomez were more than enough to get the win over the Bristol-based side.
The visitors opened the scoring within the first 15 minutes, Neall on hand at the back post to turn a dangerous cross across the face of goal into an empty net.
The second goal of the afternoon came just six minutes later, Randhawa on hand at the right place at the right time to turn home a deflected, saved shot, again, into an empty net.
The third came from the penalty spot, given for a suspected handball in the area. Davis stepped up, and hit a powerful effort into the top left corner past Emily Rose.
The fourth came four minutes before half-time, Gomez getting her head on the end of Kami Stichter’s pin-point cross.

Much like the first half, it didn’t take City long to open the scoring in the second half, with Randhawa getting her brace.
Again, a ball played across the box found it’s way to her, and she was in the right position to slot home her second of the afternoon.
Neall then got her brace as well, with a well-timed header, that looped over Rose and into the back of the net.
City did push for further damange to the scoreline, however, it was to no avail, with keeper Rose pulling off some wonder saves, and the game ended six to the good for Gloucester City.
Chris Hill’s side now find themselves going into a trip to 2nd placed Bitton next weekend knowing that a win will leave them just one more victory from clinching the South West Regional League Division One North title.
For Downend, they host Purton Women next Sunday in a massive six pointer at the bottom of the table.
