Gloucester City Women hit double-digits against Corsham to move to top of the table
Gloucester City Women ran riot against Corsham Town Women, putting them to the sword at the Tigerturf Stadium, writes Abi Harding.
Goals from Sachi Kaneko-Grun, Lucabella Davis, Laina Warren, Nalani Lasmarias, Kassidy Grey, Taite Scheafer, Sophia Gomez and Paige Todd secured all three points for the hosts.
The emphatic win sees City climb to the top of the table by a point, with games in hand over teams below them. It leaves Corsham sat in ninth on five points, a mere point above the relegation zone.
Gloucester took an early lead through Kaneko-Grun, who raced through the Corsham defence and slotted her effort calmly past the outstretched gloves of opposition goalkeeper Bea Gitsham.
It wasn’t long before the hosts doubled their advantage, Davis running through on goal and slotting her effort into the bottom left-hand corner.
City then had multiple chances to go 3-0 up, and finally converted one when Warren beat her player and curled her effort in off the post.
The hosts added another one just before halftime, with substitute Lasmarias heading home after finding herself free at the back post.
The visitors did have a chance to pull one back before the halftime whistle, but Alice Blackman’s effort was saved by City keeper Sam Linteo.
Much like the first half, the hosts sprang into action quickly and scored their fifth goal of the afternoon when Grey got on the end of a corner.
Scheafer then joined in on the action, slotting home a sixth as City continued to create chance after chance.
Substitute Gomez scored the hosts seventh, and even though there was a good chunk of time left to play on the clock, the game was well and truly over.
It looked for a moment like Corsham might get their first goal of the game when City couldn’t clear their lines, but after Charlie Cowper raced in on goal, her powerful, low strike was well held by Linteo.
Within the next moments however, Kaneko-Grun got her hattrick, scoring the eighth and ninth of the game.
The hosts didn’t stop there, as Todd get herself on the scoresheet, when she raced in on goal and powered her effort in at the near post from a tight angle to make it 10-0.
Next up for Gloucester City is the visit of St Vallier Ladies next weekend, whilst Corsham are back at home and host Stockwood Wanderers Women.
