Cheltenham Town women ran out 7-0 winners over Yeovil Town women at Kayte Lane to secure their place in the FA Cup second round, writes Abi Harding.

Goals from Abbey Hatelely, Una Lue, Anais Trinci, Libby Bell, Jess Leach, and Emily Owen as well as an own goal saw Cheltenham off against their opponents who sit three steps below them in the football pyramid.

Tom Davies’ side are now in the hat for the second round as they look to emulate their FA Cup run from last season.

Hateley got the first goal of many for the Robinesses, a through ball finding her on the left-hand side, with the defender able to convert from inside the box.

It was soon two, an own goal from the unfortunate Abbie Vernon doubling the hosts’ advantage just two minutes after they had opened the scoring.

Cheltenham were still pilling on the pressure, Lue providing a third after goalkeeper Emily Hall failed to clear her lines.

The second half started somewhat slowly for both sides, but Cheltenham got a fourth just before the 70th minute mark through Trinci, who’s powerful volleyed effort found the back of the Yeovil net.

Then, the goals started flowing for the hosts, with Bell, Leach and captain Owen getting in on the action to pile on the misery for the Glovers.

Yeovil did come close to scoring one of their own, when substitute keeper Carys Pugh-Jones failed to clear her lines, however the visitors couldn’t convert.

The game finished 7-0 in the end, with Cheltenham comfortably through to the next round.

It’s back to league action next weekend for both sides, with Cheltenham hosting promotion-hunting Ipswich Town, and Yeovil making the trip to Sticker Women.
