Sam’s Section: Slimbridge and Gloucester City go head-to-head as FA Youth Cup hits Gloucestershire

0

I’ve so far covered the FA Cup and FA Vase during the opening month of the new season but now it’s time to take a look at the FA Youth Cup as teams around Gloucestershire gear up for their fixtures.

Eleven Gloucestershire under 18’s sides stake a claim in the Youth Cup with Fairford Town and Bishops Cleeve already safely through to the next round and will now be waiting for the other sides to join them.

Unfortunately, Longlevens were unbeaten on penalties after a good display against Hallen on Monday night – whilst Lydney Town were beaten at Bristol Manor Farm the same evening.

Cheltenham Saracens, Cinderford Town, Slimbridge, Gloucester City, Cirencester Town, Hartpury University and Tuffley Rovers are all in action this week so here are their fixtures.

Slimbridge v Gloucester City (Thornhill Park, Thursday 5 September; 19:30 kick off)

Possibly the standout tie of the round which you can listen in live to with Severn Sport and myself as Slimbridge look to go one better this year and reach the First Qualifying Round after losing out to Street last campaign.

Gloucester City will be looking to put last season’s disappointing First Qualifying Round exit behind them as they were defeated 6-0 by Cheltenham Saracens.

Cheltenham Saracens v Cinderford Town (Petersfield Park, Thursday 5 September; 19:30 kick off)

Saracens opened their Youth Cup account in mid-August with a 3-1 victory away to Thornbury Town, setting up a scintillating home tie with Cinderford.

Cinderford exited the competition during the Extra Preliminary Round last season following a heavy 6-0 defeat to Slimbridge so will be hoping to make the most of their bye to the Preliminary Round this time around.

Paulton Rovers v Cirencester Town (Winterfield Road, Thursday 5 September; 19:30 kick off)

With their senior side suffering a challenging start to the Uhlsport Hellenic League Premier season, Cirencester will be turning their attention to the under 18’s side as they look to get the better of Paulton Rovers.

Hartpury University v Mangotsfield United (Hartpury University Stadium, Thursday 5 September; 19:30 kick off)

Hartpury sailed through to the Second Qualifying Round last campaign where they eventually suffered a 1-0 defeat to Bridgwater United but recorded some impressive results defeating Hallen 8-0 and Odd Down 7-0.

Radstock Town v Tuffley Rovers (Southfields Recreation Ground, Thursday 5 September; 19:30 kick off)

Tuffley make the trip to Somerset for their Youth Cup tie with Radstock Town as they look to reach the First Qualifying Round for successive seasons after their run was brought to end by Street last time around.
