Severn Sport Tipster League 2020 – Cheltenham Festival Final Results

What a final day of tipster league action we saw at the fourth and final day of the Cheltenham Festival.

Our 10 tipsters approached the day and some took the gamble and added boosts to their selections today. Today’s races were:

13:30 -JCB Triumph Hurdle

14:10 – Randox Health County Handicap Hurdle

14:50 – Albert Bartlett Novices’ Hurdle

And to finish the week off nicely, we asked our tipsters to pick the winner of the Magners Gold Cup, in a double points race.

We were all set, the top 5 were separated by just 3 points so it was tense! Now let’s see how the guys got on.

13:30 – JCB Triump Hurdle

1) Burning Victory (12/1)
2) Aspire Tower (5/1)
3) Allmankind (7/2)

Unseated Rider: Goshen

A very dramatic start to the final day of the tipster league, as every one of our tipsters saw either a positive or negative return – no one failed to score.

All of Sweet Prince, Bacon, The Sidekick, Top Trotters and Always In My Brother’s Shadow scored -2 points for favourite unseating the rider.

Both The Fox and Mr Slimbridge AFC had Goshen, but also had Allmankind, meaning they scored -1 point each.

The three positive scorers were A season unbeaten, almost, #Tripod and The Voltage – who all scored 1 point for a place.

One race down, and already the league’s final standings were taking shape

14:10 – Randox Health County Handicap Hurdle

1) Saint Roi (11/2 Fav)
2) Aramon (8/1)
3) Embittered (14/1)
4) Buildmeupbuttercup (16/1)

Pulled Up: Stolen Silver

Drama once again! Stolen Silver pulling up two hurdles from home saw A season unbeaten, almost score -2 points and saw #Tripod only pick up a point despite picking the winner.

The Fox was the only other tipster to not pick the winner, but he did get a place with Embittered – so picked up 1 point.

All of Sweet Prince, The Sidekick, Mr Slimbridge AFC and Always In My Brother’s Shadow picked up 3 points for the winner, with Top Trotters and Bacon getting the reversed forecast with Aramon, meaning they scored 4 points a piece.

The big winner of the race was The Voltage, who had the double price boost against the winner. This means he got “paid out” at 11/1 and therefore scored 5 points for the winner and a further point for Embittered, totalling 6 points for the one race.

So we had one race before the Gold Cup and there was a clear divide of top 5/bottom 5 forming. Could anyone mount a late charge?

14:50 – Albert Bartlett Novices’ Hurdle

1) Monkfish (5/1)
2) Latest Exhibition (9/2 Fav)
3) Fury Road (5/1)

Six of the tipsters failed to score any points here. Sweet Prince scored 1 point for a place, whilst #Tripod picked up 3 points for the winner.

Always In My Brother’s Shadow picked up 4 points for the reversed forecast, whilst The Fox scored 5 points for having the winner with a double price boost.

So going into the Gold Cup race itself one of the top five could win the league. Top Trotters and Mr Slimbridge AFC were on Al Boum Photo, The Voltage was on Lostintranslation, Always In My Brother’s Shadow were on Delta Work and Sweet Prince was on Clan Des Obeaux. Let’s see how they got on.

15:30 – Magners Cheltenham Gold Cup

1) Al Boum Photo (10/3 Fav)
2) Santini (5/1)
3) Lostintranslation (10/1)

As mentioned, this was a double points race so there are a couple of bits to clear up. The Sidekick, The Voltage, #Tripod and A season unbeaten, almost all picked up 2 points for their selections placing.

But both Top Trotters and Mr Slimbridge AFC scored 6 points each for tipping Al Boum Photo. Now, every race is done and dusted – let’s see the final table.

Incredible! For the second year running, the tipster league has been decided on the Bonus Points difference. Top Trotters take the crown and are the new King Tipsters of the Severn Sport Tipster League from a former champion, Mr Slimbridge AFC in second.

Always In My Brother’s Shadow were top ahead of the Gold Cup race and they will come again after finishing 3rd I am sure! The Voltage did the best he ever has, whilst the Sweet Prince will be disappointed with his final position.

Then there is a considerable distance back to Bacon and A season unbeaten, almost – with the later seriously being affected by minus points throughout the week.

After a break start The Fox faded into 8th, whilst The Sidekick never really got going. #Tripod picked more winners than four of the five above them – but too were hampered by minus points and finished last.

A massive thank you to all 10 competitors and for everyone who has read and followed the tipster league this week. Due to the current COVID-19 outbreak it is likely that the Grand National meeting in April won’t go ahead as planned, so this is likely to be our only tipster league of the year. If it is, see you at the same time next year for more tipster league action!

Long live the Kings!!
