Severn Sport Stars of the Week – 14/09/21

Severn Sport Stars of the Week is here! In our new website feature to give recognition to the youth footballers in and around Gloucestershire for their dedication and achievements.

We have had a number of messages this week, with so many young players impressing with their skills and determination. Lets take a look at all of the youngsters appearing this week.

First up we have Will Jones of Longlevens Tigers U13s.

Will joined the team last season and has settled into the team really well, including going on the end-of-season camping and canoeing trip despite not being with the side long.

Since then he has started the season brightly having moved position and has scored a goal in each of his five games this season so, from pre-season into the Severn Valley League fixtures.

Will has been described as an unselfish team player who combines well with his team mates to create chances for others and has worked very hard on his finishing, which in turn has grown his confidence as the goals keep coming.

Most importantly he is a nice lad and his coaches describe him as a “please” Well in Will!

Next we had a submission earlier in the week on Facebook for Henry Davies of the Abbeymead Rovers U11s Jackdaws team.

Henry has won his team’s most improved player since taking up the goalie gloves back in July 2020! In order to improve his game for Abbeymead he has been training in all weather and conditions with the Cheltenham & Gloucester Development centre which is fantastic.

But most importantly Henry has been playing with a smile on his face every single game and has been enjoying playing his football!

On Twitter we had a message to nominate Abbeymead Rovers Girls U14s player Lacie Baber-Smith who worked tirelessly in both attack and defence against Gloucester City this weekend.

Lacie never gave up and remained a threat throughout and in the nominator’s opinion was the best player on the pitch!

Also we have a shoutout to the Abbeymead Allstars U14s who played their first game of the Severn Valley League C away at Highnam Girls, running out 9-2 winners.

The team have been working very hard throughout pre-season by training twice a week and have been playing more experienced and tough teams every weekend.

There was specific praise for Tai Wilson who played his first competitive game ever at the weekend and grabbed himself two goals and two assists, which is incredible!

Tai has been working very hard on his game since joining the team and has settled in well!

A massive shout out goes to Rising Stars Comets U12s player Danyaal Patel who grabbed a hattrick in their game at the weekend!

Team wise we had a great submission for Bishops Cleeve Colts Wanderers U10s who drew 4-4 with Prestbury Phantoms Typhoons.

The game was a brilliant game with Cleeve player Finlay Smith scoring a free-kick Cristiano Ronaldo style with the last kick of the game having already scored earlier on in the match.

We received three nominations for one young lady who had an amazing weekend! Gloucester City U12s player Sofia Bolton was a very popular nomination.

In the first submission Sofia was described as a ‘constant menace’ in their game with North Somerset. Sofia won numerous free kicks for City, was brave on the ball and scored an absolute screamer – all in the team’s first competitive game of the season…oh yeah, she is also the only girl in the team and players in the age group above! Incredible.

Another submission described the goal as superb and the performance showed her determination, especially when she was getting shoved around by the opposition. She kept her cool and let her skill do the talking.

The third submission simply said that Sofia caused the North Somerset defence all sorts of problems throughout and scored an absolute screamer. To sum it up, Player of the Match. Outstanding!

What a performance from Sofia and what an impression she has left during her first game!
