Severn Sevens – Butler vs White

With the 2021/22 season still in it’s early stages we have decided to bring back our ‘Severn Sevens’ game but with a twist.

For those who have listened to Severn Sport for years you would have heard us run our Severn Sevens competition between Ryan, Kelsey and Matt and this later saw a variation in Kelsey vs Matt during our show on Dean Radio.

Well now we are bringing it back and this time our man Ryan Butler is challenging a member of the Gloucestershire footballing community each week in a new variant of the competition.

So how it will work is Butler and the guest each week will pick the scoreline for seven chosen matches involving Gloucestershire sides, with 20 points awarded for a correct result and 50 points for the correct score. If a game is postponed or abandoned then both Butler and the guest will receive 10 points each.

The guests and Butler on a weekly average will be ranked in a leaderboard, with the winner at the end of the season receiving a prize, TBC.

This weekend’s challenger is Joel White. White was the M&S Roofing Man of the Match on Tuesday night in his re-debut for Tuffley Rovers in their 1-1 draw with Calne Town.

White joined from Frampton United and has already eyed up Colin Gay’s 60 points as a minimum target as he continues on the rivalry Severn Sport readers will be familiar with, following on from our annual Cheltenham Festival Tipster League.

Here is how the leaderboard currently looks:

Sam Prior – 140 points

Macaulay Herbert; Adam Mace & Freddy Ward – 100 points

Butler (Average) – 81 points

Josh Loveridge – 70 points

Mark Cornell; Tristan Haswell; Colin Gay- 60 points

Charlie Hughes – 50 points

Danny King – 30 points

*Butler’s Highest scoring gameweek – 150 points (11th September)*

Cirencester Town vs Slimbridge (Southern League Division One South)

This all-Gloucestershire encounter usually throws up a few goals and at the Corinium Stadium on the 3g pitch Cirencester always look to try and play on the front foot. Slimbridge have players capable of causing John Brough’s men all sorts of trouble though so it will be a tough game for both sides.

Joel White’s Score Prediction: Cirencester Town 1-2 Slimbridge

Butler’s Score Prediction: Cirencester Town 3-1 Slimbridge

Full time score: Cirencester Town 6-0 Slimbridge (Butler 20pts; White 0pts)

Shrivenham vs Brimscombe & Thrupp (Hellenic League Premier Division)

Brimscombe come into this one with two very good wins in a row, but Shrivenham will be another tough test in what is a very competitive Hellenic Premier this season.

With an in-form Harlie Price though the difference between the two sides could simply fall on the finest of margins.

Joel White’s Score Prediction: Shrivenham 2-3 Brimscombe & Thrupp

Butler’s Score Prediction: Shrivenham 2-3 Brimscombe & Thrupp

Full time score: Shrivenham 0-2 Brimscombe & Thrupp (Butler 20pts; White 20pts)

Abingdon United vs Shortwood United (Hellenic League Division One)

In Luke Soule Shortwood United have an unbelievable striker at their disposal and they head to a side with 10 losses out of their 10 matches so far this season. So the table and season stats so far indicate that an away win is very, very likely.

Joel White’s Score Prediction: Abingdon United 0-2 Shortwood United

Butler’s Score Prediction: Abingdon United 0-4 Shortwood United

Full time score: Abingdon United 0-1 Shortwood United (Butler 20pts; White 20pts)

Gala Wilton vs Frampton United (Gloucestershire County League)

It’s 5th vs 2nd in the County League this weekend and Gala will fancy their chances against a side still unbeaten in the league as Gala possess the firepower to cause Frampton problems. The visitors though will be flying into this one and will be itching to try and stick with leaders Shirehampton as much as they can – so a win is crucial!

Joel White’s Score Prediction: Gala Wilton 1-3 Frampton United

Butler’s Score Prediction: Gala Wilton 1-2 Frampton United

Full time score: Gala Wilton 3-2 Frampton United (Butler 0pts; White 0pts)

Ruardean Hill Rangers vs Hanham Athletic (Gloucestershire County League)

Hanham are 7 losses from 7 games this season but Ruardean only picked up their first league win last time out – however that win was 8-1 and they have gone on to beat Hardwicke in the cup since, so the hosts will be favourites going into this game.

Joel White’s Score Prediction: Ruardean Hill Rangers 2-0 Hanham Athletic

Butler’s Score Prediction: Ruardean Hill Rangers 3-0 Hanham Athletic

Full time score: Ruardean Hill Rangers 11-1 Hanham Athletic (Butler 20pts; White 20pts)

Charfield vs Dursley Town (GFA Senior Amateur North Cup)

Two of the better sides from the Reg Davis Cup Group C back the end of last season and the start of this and as they meet in the County Cup we know that anything can happen. Probably the toughest game to call in the whole gameweek.

Joel White’s Score Prediction: Charfield 1-1 Dursley Town

Butler’s Score Prediction: Charfield 1-3 Dursley Town

Full time score: Charfield 1-2 Dursley Town (Butler 20pts; White 0pts)

Berkeley Town vs Smiths Barometrics (GFA Senior Amateur North Cup)

Berkeley are flying in the Division One of the GNSL and are one of only two unbeaten sides in the division despite playing the most games in the division too!

Smiths are top of Division Two and are perfect with 7 wins out of 7 games played so far. So this one is set to be an absolute cracker.

Joel White’s Score Prediction: Berkeley Town 3-2 Smiths Barometrics

Butler’s Score Prediction: Berkeley Town 2-2 Smiths Barometrics

Full time score: Berkeley Town 2-0 Smiths Barometrics (Butler 0pts; White 20pts)

What an evenly fought week between Butler and White, with Butler coming out on top 100-80. Both did very well at getting the correct result – with Butler a goal off a correct score!

Lets see how the leaderboard now looks:

Sam Prior – 140 points

Macaulay Herbert; Adam Mace & Freddy Ward – 100 points

Butler (Average) – 83 points

Joel White – 80 points

Josh Loveridge – 70 points

Mark Cornell; Tristan Haswell; Colin Gay- 60 points

Charlie Hughes – 50 points

Danny King – 30 points

*Butler’s Highest scoring gameweek – 150 points (11th September)*
