Severn Sevens – Butler vs Parker

With the 2021/22 season still in it’s early stages we have decided to bring back our ‘Severn Sevens’ game but with a twist.

For those who have listened to Severn Sport for years you would have heard us run our Severn Sevens competition between Ryan, Kelsey and Matt and this later saw a variation in Kelsey vs Matt during our show on Dean Radio.

Well now we are bringing it back and this time our man Ryan Butler is challenging a member of the Gloucestershire footballing community each week in a new variant of the competition.

So how it will work is Butler and the guest each week will pick the scoreline for seven chosen matches involving Gloucestershire sides, with 20 points awarded for a correct result and 50 points for the correct score. If a game is postponed or abandoned then both Butler and the guest will receive 10 points each.

The guests and Butler on a weekly average will be ranked in a leaderboard, with the winner at the end of the season receiving a prize, TBC.

This weekend’s challenger is Longlevens and Hartpury goalkeeper Ellis Parker.

Here is how the leaderboard currently looks:

Sam Prior – 140 points

Macaulay Herbert; Adam Mace & Freddy Ward – 100 points

Butler (Average) – 83 points

Joel White – 80 points

Josh Loveridge – 70 points

Mark Cornell; Tristan Haswell; Colin Gay- 60 points

Charlie Hughes – 50 points

Danny King – 30 points

*Butler’s Highest scoring gameweek – 150 points (11th September)*

Slimbridge vs Lymington Town (Southern League Division One South)

Slimbridge had a fantastic result against Barnstaple and they will be looking to make it a great week with another home fixture this weekend.

Lymington are struggling for consistency but have played less games than the Swans and other sides around them.

Ellis Parker’s Score Prediction: Slimbridge 2-1 Lymington Town

Butler’s Score Prediction: Slimbridge 2-2 Lymington Town

Full time score: Slimbridge 3-0 Lymington Town (Butler 0pts; Parker 20pts)

Brimscombe & Thrupp vs Welton Rovers (FA Vase First Round)

Brimscombe & Thrupp have been flying away from home but this home tie is one where you have to fancy Sam Prior’s men to give a good account of themselves. Expect goals in this one…cue a 0-0!

Ellis Parker’s Score Prediction: Brimscombe & Thrupp 3-1 Welton Rovers

Butler’s Score Prediction: Brimscombe & Thrupp 4-2 Welton Rovers

Full time score: Brimscombe & Thrupp 2-1 Welton Rovers (Butler 20pts, Parker 20pts)

Tuffley Rovers vs Street (FA Vase First Round)

Tuffley chalked up a good win in testing conditions on Tuesday night against Chipping Sodbury and whilst this will be a tough one against Street this weekend if they can settle early like midweek then a win is more than achievable.

Ellis Parker’s Score Prediction: Tuffley Rovers 1-2 Street

Butler’s Score Prediction: Tuffley Rovers 2-1 Street

Full time score: Tuffley Rovers 1-4 Street (Butler 0pts; Parker 20pts)

Westbury United vs Lydney Town (Hellenic League Premier Division)

Lydney have struggled for any sort of form this season so far and another tough away trip sees them take on a Westbury side just struggling for a bit of consistency since joining the Hellenic League.

Wesbury’s last four results have seen them win 5-2, 6-0 and 5-0 consecutively before a 4-0 defeat against Cribbs. Form suggests they are hitting form at a decent time.

Ellis Parker’s Score Prediction: Westbury United 2-0 Lydney Town

Butler’s Score Prediction: Westbury United 3-1 Lydney Town

Full time score: Westbury 4-1 Lydney Town (Butler 20pts; Parker 20pts)

Newent Town vs Abingdon United (Hellenic League Division One)

Newent’s record of 1 win, 3 draws and 8 defeats against Abingdon’s 11 played 11 losses sees this a perfect opportunity for Newent to chalk up an important home win. Potential of a banana skin here though.

Ellis Parker’s Score Prediction: Newent Town 1-0 Abingdon United

Butler’s Score Prediction: Newent Town 3-1 Abingdon United

Full time score: Newent Town 0-4 Abingdon United (Butler 0pts; Parker 0pts)

Quedgeley Wanderers vs English Bicknor (Gloucestershire County League)

Bicknor are leaking goals and with a -14 goal difference and only 2 wins from their opening 9 games show they are a little slow out of the blocks, but they will be capable of getting something this weekend.

Quedgeley are unbeaten at home so far though, including winning their last 3 on the spin.

Ellis Parker’s Score Prediction: Quedgeley Wanderers 1-1 English Bicknor

Butler’s Score Prediction: Quedgeley Wanderers 3-2 English Bicknor

Full time score: Quedgeley Wanderers 5-0 English Bicknor (Butler 20pts; Parker 0pts)

Dursley Town vs Berkeley Town (Gloucestershire Northern Senior League Division One)

Berkeley Town are top of the league and are still unbeaten, but they play a Dursley side that have been all or nothing so far this campaign.

Both sides had a good Reg Davis Cup and both will be desperate to get a result here.

Ellis Parker’s Score Prediction: Dursley Town 0-4 Berkeley Town

Butler’s Score Prediction: Dursley 1-2 Berkeley Town

Full time score: Dursley Town 2-0 Berkeley Town (Butler 0pts; Parker 0pts)

And Parker wins 80-60! Close for Butler though as he was one goal off a correct score in the Westbury vs Lydney game.

Let’s see how the leaderboard now looks.

Sam Prior – 140 points

Macaulay Herbert; Adam Mace & Freddy Ward – 100 points

Butler (Average) – 81 points

Joel White; Ellis Parker – 80 points

Josh Loveridge – 70 points

Mark Cornell; Tristan Haswell; Colin Gay- 60 points

Charlie Hughes – 50 points

Danny King – 30 points

*Butler’s Highest scoring gameweek – 150 points (11th September)*
