Our featured game on Sunday saw us head to Whaddon Road for Cheltenham Town Ladies’ Women’s FA Cup defeat against Gillingham WFC.
After being reinstated into the competition on Wednesday, Cheltenham knew if they could win Sunday’s tie then they would be heading to Arsenal next weekend.
Following a goalless first half the hosts took the lead when Billie Haynes’ driven cross from the left hand side was diverted into the Gillingham net by a Gills boot.
From there though Gillingham scored an equaliser through Jade Keogh’s long range effort that went in over debutant Molly Ripley.
After a tough second half and extra time period both sides went into the final 15 minute period knowing the next goal was the likely winner and it came through Gillingham forward Otesha Charles – who’s scuffed effort wrong footed Ripley and nestled into the net.
Both sides were out on their feet in the end and despite defeat Cheltenham Town Ladies can take heart from a spirited display.
