“It’s time to step up, for all of us” says Reid after first pre-season session as Fairford boss

New Fairford Town Manager Jamie Reid says it’s time for the whole club to step up ahead of the start of his side’s pre-season schedule before the 2022/23 season.

At the end of April it was confirmed by Fairford Town that Reid would be stepping up from his Assistant Manager position to take the Manager’s position vacated by Jody Bevan, who is now Director of Football at the club and this weekend saw Reid start his first pre-season session as boss, with the former Hardwicke Player/Manager feeling positive going into the new campaign and what to expect from a “Jamie Reid side.”

“Saturday went exactly as I planned in honesty,” sad Reid. “We are still missing 5 or 6 lads but it was very good numbers, with some new faces coming in.

I didn’t want it to be too intense, so we got the balls out and Coxy [Rich Cox] put on a good session with the lads responding really well. The most important thing was to get back out on the training pitch and see smiles on faces.

Being honest I don’t know what you expect from a Jamie Reid side, but I do know what people are expecting from me and I don’t want to disappoint!

I just want us to start similar to how we ended last season. We had that grit about us and became difficult to break down.

I know we have the fire power to get us going, but I want us to take pride in keeping the ball out of the net too,” Reid said.

Reid makes the step up into the Manager’s hot seat after four seasons at Cinder Lane as Bevan’s Assistant and has praised his predecessor for the continued support since the news was released and admits that whilst the role has changed, the excitement remains for the new season.

“Jody has been great so far. He’s been doing so much regarding kits, commercial partnerships, sponsorships and being there for any queries I’ve had. But when it comes to the football side he has given me the reins and I’m lucky enough to have a good team with me in Farry [Sam Farr] Rands [Lee Randall] and now Coxy.

I also want to mention Beth our physio and Kyran, our analyst – I like to think going forwards we’re all going to compliment each other very well and that will hopefully benefit us as a club.

It’s always exciting going into a new season. It’s a blank canvas for every club at all levels and it’s no different with us, we’re really excited to get it all started again.

I suppose it does feel different this time around, but I’m going into my fifth season here now so I know exactly how it is – but obviously with the new role there is more responsibility on getting it right.

It’s time to step up, for all of us. From the players, to my staff, to me, we have to look to improve on last season and help this club reach it’s full potential,” said Reid.

Fairford start their pre-season campaign on Saturday 9th July, with the visit of Southern League Central side Didcot Town to Cinder Lane. Other visitors to Cinder Lane include Swindon Town U18s and Broadwell Amateurs as Reid looks to build his squad for the 2022/23 Hellenic Premier season.

Ahead of the start of pre-season Reid has hinted to expect some new faces to join his side over the coming weeks.

“I’ve spoke to a few targets, but we won’t be releasing anything regarding that until at least half way through pre-season when we can actually put pen to paper.

Bar one or two all of last year’s squad are returning, which is great. I am excited about the new faces we’ve already had commit to us and I’m looking forward to getting a couple more down to training in the new few weeks,” said Reid.
