Hawes, Wright & Troke latest nominees in End of Season Awards 21/22

Slimbridge striker Will Hawes, Cheltenham Saracens goalkeeper Joe Wright and Longlevens left back Luke Troke are the latest nominees in the Severn Sport End of Season Awards 2021/22.

Yesterday we confirmed that Harlie Price, Jack Watts and Ethan Dunbar had all received their second nominations in the End of Season Awards, with all three up for Player of the Season.

Now both Joe Wright and Luke Troke are being nominated for the Breakthrough Player of the Season, sponsored by Cornell & Company after both having seasons that saw them lay a marker for how good they can be.

Wright has firmly established himself as not only Cheltenham Saracens number one but also as a one of the best goalkeepers within the county at the moment – and with Jon Dix chomping at his heels he is producing a number of consistent performances in a tough season.

Troke claimed the AthElite Sport Player of the Month for December after a number of impressive performances and his second half of the season saw him continue to impress and he has now tied down the left back position at Longlevens.

Swans’ top scorer Will Hawes will be up for the Player of the Season, sponsored by Severn Sparks, category after helping fire Slimbridge to the highest ever finish at Southern League level. Hawes netted 18 times along the way as he continues to be a crucial player for the Swans.

Severn Sport’s Ryan Butler has given his thoughts regarding the latest nominees for the 2021/22 awards:

Let’s start with Will. He is a terrific player and has been for the last couple of years for Slimbridge. Technically sound and an eye for goal, he has been incredibly important to the Slimbridge cause and he is more than worthy to be in amongst the other names for Player of the Season.

I can also confirm that there is ONE more nominee to announce for the Player of the Season category and it will be announced on Wednesday!

When it came to writing out the shortlists for the nominees, Joe Wright was one of the first players I thought of for the Breakthrough Player of the Season.

I had seen him play for Slimbridge U18s before and he looked like a decent keeper, but this season he has stepped up to be an incredibly consistent goalkeeper at a decent level too! Cheltenham Saracens have him and Jon Dix on their books and it’s hard to name a better goalkeeping duo than that for me.

Luke Troke is a player I have always said frustrated the life out of me. He always had the ability but sometimes his head hadn’t been in it. He will be the first to admit he struggled at Tuffley when he was playing in the First Team one week then the Reserves for the next three weeks.

When he joined Longlevens the jury was out for me, but he has impressed and laid down a foundation to build on next season and beyond.
