Brockworth Albion made it four straight wins with a resounding 4-0 victory over nine-men Dursley Town in the Gloucestershire Northern Senior League on Saturday at The Rec, writes Sam Yapp.

Albion keep the pace on the top three going six games unbeaten while Dursley fall five points of second placed, Whaddon United suffering just their second league defeat this season.

It promised to be a tasty affair pre-match, but no one was ready for what was to come in a game that saw 12 yellow cards, 2 sin-bins, 2 red cards and gluts of chances on goal.

After a great start by Dursley it was Albion who took the lead inside 10 minutes when Ashley Bird met a dangerous Matt Cairns cross to head home from close range.

Albion doubled their lead on 26 minutes in incredible fashion when Cairns struck a wide free-kick from almost 30-yeards over everybody and into the back of the net.

Dursley’s afternoon went from bad to worse almost straight from the restart on 29 minutes when they were reduced to nine-men in a matter of seconds.

Ash Caldwell was shown a straight red for a rash challenge before Jack Dolbear followed him off with a second yellow for dissent leaving the Dursley bench unhappy for the rest of the first period.

Albion made the extra few men count just before the interval as Bird notched his 14th goal of the season from the spot to make it 3-0 after Rory Wilkinson had been bought down on goal.

Dursley came out fighting in the second half forcing the Albion goalkeeper, Korsten Lewis into a smart stop from a Joe Gray free-kick with the half just a few minutes old.

The only downside Albion came away from the game with was losing Lewis on 53 minutes to nasty looking injury after falling awkwardly.

Albion left-back, Sean Gee took over in goal and his first call to action came on 65 minutes when Dursley won themselves a penalty but the stand in ‘keeper wasn’t needed.

Aaron Nash stepped up but saw his spot kick rebound back of the post just moments after Dursley’s Ryan Ponting had rattled the bar from a header, summing up Town’s afternoon.

And Dursley did end the game with eight-men seeing both Ponting and Logan Weyman spend time in the sin-bin which allowed their visitors to take full advantage.

In the sixth minute of injury time Osmah Abazied rolled home Albion’s fourth of the afternoon after some fantastic build up play from Cairns and Bird.

Both sides are back in action next Saturday when Brockworth hunt for a fifth successive win away at Charfield whilst Dursley travel to Staunton & Corse hoping to get back to winning ways.
