Tuesday night sees the start of the 2024/25 season, with the Hellenic Premier’s opening round of matches and, as always, we will have our Ultimate Gloucestershire Season Preview post…but for now here is a taster.

For the preview post, Butler is joined by Sam Yapp and Gloucestershire Live’s Cheltenham Town reporter, Jon Palmer, once again to cast their eyes over the teams and players to watch from Cheltenham Town down to grassroots football.

To get everyone in the mood, all three have picked a team to watch this season, their overall team to watch so the speak.

So let’s get started with Sam’s choice.

SY: My team to watch is Stonehouse Town (Hellenic League Division One).

Watching Stonehouse lift the Severn Sport Shield with some impressive performances blew me away, with the feeling that times are exciting at the club heading into the new season.

With the return of Ian Soule in the dugout and a mixture of experience and talent within the squad, the Magpies look in a great position to give next season a real go in what bids to be the most challenging Hellenic Div Two season in recent times.

I will defiantly be keeping a close eye on the Magpies season as they could spring some surprises in the league with an exciting style of football under Soule.

Next up is Butler’s team to look out for.

RB: I have a number of sides I will be looking at this season, but after what can only be described as a nightmare preparation, it has to be Brimscombe & Thrupp in the Hellenic Premier.

We all knew that with Sam Prior departing, it was going to be a tough job for whoever took over and with rumours circulating that numbers weren’t great in the early sessions and the results of the friendlies, newly appointed Manager Gareth Davies and the club parted ways a week before the season. Blimey!

That leaves whoever comes in mere days to get a side together for the Lilywhites first league game and with the club folding the U18s midway through last season, the new man or men will need to bring in players and quick!

So whether they have a positive or negative season, they will certainly be the team to watch, especially in the first couple of months of the season.

Finally, Jon Palmer gives us an insight on his team to watch.

JP: Cheltenham Saracens U18s (CYFL U18s League). I’ve been really impressed with the pathway at Cheltenham Saracens and the Under-18s team is full of potential.

The quality of coaching and experience in the management staff at the club means players are in a great environment to be able to fulfil that potential.
