“The best Secretary in the world” – Brimscombe ready to host game in honour of Allan Boulton

This weekend sees a friendly taking place at Brimscombe & Thrupp in honour of the late Allan Boulton.

Boulton passed away suddenly in December and on Sunday a game will be played in honour the former Brimmy Secretary – with a Brimscombe & Thrupp Vets side set to take on a Forest Green Rovers Legends team.

The game kicks off at 12pm at the Meadow, with all proceeds from the entry donations and takings on the day going to the Gloucestershire Air Ambulance Service.

Boulton was a familiar face and popular character in local football, having driven the team bus for the likes of Forest Green Rovers, Gloucester City and Weston-super-Mare over the years.

In May, he was awarded the John Ashplant Local Hero Award in the Severn Sport End of Season Awards and is still very much missed within the local football community.

Ahead of Sunday’s game, former Lilywhites boss Sam Prior paid tribute to the former club Secretary.

“Literally, Bolts was the best secretary in the world and an absolutely wonderful bloke also,” said Prior

“I always knew, as a manager, that I was in safe hands with Bolts as his knowledge of all things football was as good as anyone I’ve ever met.

He knew how to get out of sticky situations, (unless he was driving his bus at Moneyfields), would go out of his way to help and was loved by everyone at both the football club and further afield.

A wonderful human, kind hearted and a family man, who was just the sort of person that I’m sure everyone that knew him, was proud to call their friend.

It’s testament to him as a person that so many players are available on Sunday and hopefully as many people come down and watch as possible.

It’ll be fantastic to play the game in his honour, with so many ex-players playing and I’m sure it’s going to be a wonderful day, for a wonderful man and a wonderful cause!” Prior added.
