The Severn Sport Team of the Month is here once again!

As with previous years, the Severn Sport Team of the Month is sponsored by Murdock & Wasley Estate Agents.

Luke Murdock and Matt Wasley have been fantastic supporters of Severn Sport for a number of years and they are run one of the most successful estate agents within Gloucestershire.

The Severn Sport Team of the Month includes players that have stood-out in the featured games during the previous month.

Saturday 4 January – Gloucester City 2-2 Taunton Town
Sunday 5 January – Gloucester City 7-0 Longwell Green Ladies
Sunday 12 January – Cheltenham Town Women 0-2 Wolverhampton Wanderers Women
Saturday 18 January – Longlevens 3rds 1-1 Old Richians

Sunday 26 January – Cheltenham Town Women 1-0 Southampton U21s
Thursday 30 January – Dursley Town U18s 9-0 Cinderford Town U18s
Friday 31 January – Almondsbury 1-0 Chalford

Check out this month’s XI below:

Goalkeeper – Carys Pugh-Jones (Cheltenham Town Women) – Pugh-Jones made a heroic penalty save and took a boot to the face for her troubles in Cheltenham’s win in the WNL Plate and impressed Abi throughout the game as Cheltenham booked their place in the final.

Right Back – Querene Mabanza (City of Gloucester Women) – Another player to impress Abi this month for their defensive display and work ethic. Mabanza was one of the two named as Player of the Match for limiting a rampant Gloucester City Reserve side side in a big win.

Centre Back – Rob Perry (Longlevens) -Perry makes the team after a fantastic showing against Thornbury. He was marking one of the most prolific players in the league with a changed back line which was then changed again multiple times during the game. He took a couple of blows and kept going until the very end despite carrying a knock.

Centre Back – Will Croose (Longlevens 3rds) – I was really impressed with Croose in the County Cup win over Old Richians. Ryan Symonds and Jake Lowe have been scoring plenty of goals this season and Croose really did stand out at the back for Tim Lovesey’s side. He attacked everything, cleared everything and was also to take it down, calm the game and get his side going.

Left Back:- Ben Baxter (Hartpury University) – Baxter is one of the best players we get to see in the county. A massive statement I know but the guy is unreal. Whether he is playing left back or left wing, he finds a way to influence the game and is a constant outlet. An absolute gem.

Right Wing – Joe Shutt (Slimbridge) – I have known Shutt for years now and I like his move to Slimbridge. Fairford is a great club but this guy needs to be playing and his performance against Corsham showed that. He smelled blood in the Corsham back line and took advantage and was the stand-out player on the night.

Midfield – Josh Gallifent (Longlevens 3rds) – Gallifent was named MOTM for his work rate, his quality on the ball and influence on the game in the County Cup tie with Old Richians. He then stepped up to set the tone in the shoot-out, it was a real “stand up and be counted” display from him, particularly in the second half.

Midfield – Nathan Jenkins (Hartpury University) – If the season ended tomorrow, Jenkins would be up for the Live Player of the Season at the End of Season Awards. He has impressed every time we have watched him and he really does make Hartpury tick in the middle of the park.

Left Wing – Louis Manning (Hartpury University) – Manning has been electric for Hartpury this season and against Brimscombe he was once again, unplayable. He has a habit of being “the guy” who has that game defining moment and to be fair to him, he continues to deliver at frightening levels of consistency.

Striker- Kacie Anderson (City of Gloucester Women) – I was delighted and gutted when I saw that Anderson was back playing a bit more local when she scored two in City of Gloucester’s win against Gloucester City. She impressed Abi with just how clinical she was and I was gutted that I wasn’t there to see it myself! A proper player.

Striker – Theo Browne (Dursley Town U18s) – Browne impressed Sam in the Severn Sport Cup demolition over Cinderford Town – not for the first time either and it shows how good that side is that every time we see them a different player takes a starring role!

Here is the XI in full (via a brand new, fancy graphic):

The subs bench includes 7 players to impress over the month and in full, they are below:

Hollie Handisides (Gloucester City Women Reserves)
Brad Martin (Longlevens)
Luke Salter (Hartpury University)
Toby Soule (Slimbridge)
Luke Benneyworth (Chalford)
Warwick Drew (Longlevens 3rds)
Will Matthews (Old Richians)

This month’s team will be managed by Hartpury University manager Martin Longworth after his side continued to fight on all fronts and book a massive afternoon in the FA Vase today.

The Severn Sport Team of the Month continues next month – but check out the website later today for the Severn Sport Player of the Month – sponsored by Cirencester
