Severn Sport Team of the Month w/ Murdock & Wasley – August 2026
The Severn Sport Team of the Month is here once again!

The Severn Sport Team of the Month includes players that have stood-out in the featured games during the previous month.
In the opening month of the competitive season, between myself and Alfie we saw 15 matches across the month including games in the FA Cup, FA Vase and FA Trophy and they were:

Goalkeeper – Drew Brei (Longlevens) – It was between Brei and Tuffley keeper Luke Merchant and ironically by Tuffley winning it is the Levens keeper that makes it. He kept his side in it for the most part, as he did in a number of games we saw for Longlevens this month. Won our Goalkeeper of the Season in May and has started the season in great form.
Right Back – Alex Kibble (Stonehouse Town) – Kibble was superb against Thornbury Town and scored probably the goal of the season already. He deserves his good start to the season after the heartbreak of the play-off final in April, but he played his part in a superb FA Vase victory.
Centre Back – Ryan Williams (Tuffley Rovers) – Fair play, what a signing Ryan Williams has been so far. An experienced man at the back who has come in and elevated those around him. It is an incredible impact he is having on a red hot Tuffley side.
Centre Back – Tom Berry (Gala Wilton) – Gala’s win over Stonehouse Town Reserves in the Reg Davis Cup was one of my favourite games so far this season and Berry was fantastic at the back for his side. He then popped up with a crucial opening goal in a complete performance.
Left Back – Mike Hodgins (Gala Wilton) – There were a number of players in the running for left back this month and I went with Hodgins after a great showing in the Reg Davis Cup win and what caught my eye was how good he was on the ball in his defensive third. Having seen him at U18s level I know how good he is, but under pressure at the back is a different question entirely.
Midfield – Fin Byrnes (Stonehouse Town) – Byrnes got my Man of the Match in the win over Thornbury and similar to Hodgins, what impressed me was the composure to get on the ball in the defensive positions and either manage the game or get his side forward. He is a player who can do it all and will control the tempo for Stonehouse throughout the season.
Midfield – Kian Davies (Hartpury) – I was really impressed by Davies in the FA Trophy win over Exmouth. His third man run was untrackable and in the second half, when the likes of Manning and Osborn were flying forward, he was able to mix his game up and adopt a deeper role to allow the forward players to create ahead of him.
Midfield – Dan Brain (Broadwell Amateurs) – Brain put in one of the best individual performances I have seen so far this season or probably will see throughout the campaign in the win over Longlevens Reserves. Sometimes you need players to be up for it and grab the game by the scruff of the neck as sometimes teammates will react to that and that is exactly what happened. His energy was contagious and it helped inspired Broadwell to victory.
Left Wing – Connor Walters (Tuffley Rovers) – Walters was one of the first names in the team after doubles against Hereford Pegasus and Longlevens. Walters has always been capable and technically good enough, but what we are seeing is a man full of confidence in and around the penalty box and both Rovers and Walters himself are benefitting from that.
Right Wing – Gino Valenti (Longlevens) – Valenti makes the team after a well taken double against Winslow United and three hard-working performances for Levens. He has had to play both through the middle and on the wing and been required to play in different roles for his side and he has done that effective enough to earn a place.
Strike – Harlie Price (Cirencester Town) – A double on the opening day at Tuffley for HP and a penalty against Hartpury in the FA Cup are enough to earn Price a spot in the team. He can do it all – score from long range when your side need a lift, then a scrappy poachers goal in the box to make it 2-0. Then keeps his composure to break the deadlock in a close local derby of a cup tie. He is a striker that can rise to any occasion. .

This month’s team will be managed by Sharpness’ Ben Gibbs & Brad Thomas after their exceptional start to life in Hellenic League Division One – with four wins, a draw and a defeat from their opening six league matches.
