Sam’s Section: Top of the table clash in GNSL and Rovers move out of drop zone with back-to-back wins

Here we are again for a quick look into the football that has happened or will happen in and around Gloucestershire this week.

Let’s start in the Gloucestershire Northern Senior League where on Saturday, we have a 1st vs 2nd battle when Tredworth Tigers take on Longlevens Reserves.

The GNSL title race has seen its fair share of changes over the last few weeks, and it definitely hasn’t stopped yet.

Tredworth could extend their lead at the top to five points with a victory over Longlevens but a win for Levens could see them leapfrog their opponents to take back the top spot.

Levens are in a beautiful position as we speak because they have two games in hand over Saturday’s opponents and are unbeaten in their last seven matches.

But both sides will be looking over their shoulders as Dursley Town are still in the title picture sitting one point behind Levens and three off of Tredworth.

A dip in form as seen Dursley slowly slip away from the top spot after winning just two of their last nine matches.

Karl Nash and his side will be looking to put some extra pressure on the top two when they travel to a struggling FC Lakeside on Saturday.

Onto League Two and a rejuvenated Forest Green Rovers who made it back-to-back wins for the first time this season on Tuesday night.

A Christian Doidge double guided Steve Cotterill’s side to another vital three points as they beat Bradford City 2-0 at the University of Bradford Stadium.

This victory moved Rovers out of the relegation zone for the first time since October and was another showing of the impact Cotterill has had on the club since joining in January.

Cotterill and his side have picked 13 points from their last seven matches which has changed the tune around supporters who have been given their belief back.

That belief and support will be needed in a massive run in for survival and on Saturday when Rovers could build a gap on teams below them as they take on bottom of the league, Sutton United at The New Lawn.
