It’s that time of the week again for another Sam’s Section as I highlight three fixtures around Gloucestershire to keep an eye on this weekend.
Across these three games I’ll be touching base with Gloucestershire County League, Gloucestershire Northern Senior League and the Stroud & District Football League Division One.
Sharpness v Almondsbury (MARCLIFF Gloucestershire County League, Hamfields Leisure Centre, Saturday February 8th, kick off 2pm)
There is no better place to start than what deems to be the standout fixture in Gloucestershire this weekend as it’s first (Almondsbury) v second(Sharpness).
Just two points separate the two sides after 17 games with Sharpness needing a win to see them take top spot but will also want to avoid defeat as Almondsbury could open a five point gap at the top with nine games left of the season.
Both sides come into this fixture off the back of unbeaten streaks with Almondsbury unbeaten in their last three, but their host Sharpness are enjoying a four game unbeaten run.
And if this clash wasn’t going to be tight enough already, both sides recorded their fourth unbeaten months of the campaign in January since the season started in August.
Whaddon United v Dursley Town (Gloucestershire Northern Senior League Division One, Whaddon Recreation Ground, Saturday February 8th, kick off 3pm)
This game may not have too many stipulations at the top of the GNSL Div One but second (Whaddon United) v third (Dursley Town) should not disappoint.
Dursley and Whaddon have had some bad fortune with postponements during the recent poor weather seeing both side fall behind leaders Tewkesbury Town.
Dursley, who are unbeaten their last two, sit 20 points behind Tewkesbury and 13 points off second placed Whaddon with four games in hand.
Whaddon could close the gap at the top to just four points if results elsewhere go their way and will be full of confidence heading into this game on a 16 league game unbeaten streak.

Tetbury Town v Wickwar Wanderers (Stroud & District Football League Division One, Preston Park, Saturday February 8th, kick off 2pm)
It was all change at the top of the Stroud Division One last weekend as, with Taveners not in action, Wickwar Wanderers continued their unbeaten league campaign to go top of the league.
Tetbury Town step up next to try and topple this dominant Wickwar side after failing in their first attempt in December as Wickwar ran away 5-0 winners.
But Tetbury are unbeaten in their last three games since that defeat and boast the record for the best defence in the league conceding 18 goals after 16 games.
That defence might be truly tested yet again as they come up against the most clinical attack in the league of Wickwar who have netted 58 goals in 16 games. Wickwar are not just unbeaten in the league all season but are also enjoying a run of five straight wins in the league, a run that dates back to November
