Sam’s Section: Bishops Cleeve graced with magic of the cup as one of five standout fixtures around Gloucestershire

0

Another week, another segment and this weekend across Gloucestershire we will be treated to some very tasty fixtures throughout all our divisions and cup competitions.

To warm-up for those exciting fixtures I’ve pulled out the top five fixtures people should be keeping an eye on this weekend starting with a mouthwatering tie in the Emirates FA Cup.

Bishops Cleeve vs Torquay United (Everyone’s Energy Kayte Lane, Saturday September 14th, 3pm)

After defeating Laverstock & Ford 2-1 in their First Qualifying Round replay Bishops Cleeve set up what could be described as the biggest game in the clubs history as they welcome National League South side Torquay United in the Second Qualifying Round.

Torquay currently sit fifth in the National League South, but league form sometimes doesn’t matter when it comes to the FA Cup as a large crowd could help cause a major cupset and push Cleeve into the Third Qualifying Round for the first time since 2009.

Hartpury University vs Fairford Town (Hartpury University Stadium, Saturday September 14th, 3pm)

It’s 5th vs 6th and an all Gloucestershire affair as Hartpury University take on Fairford Town with Hartpury looking to build breathing space inside the play-off spots and Fairford looking to leapfrog their opponents into the play-off spots.

Just a single point separates the two sides, but Fairford are yet to be defeated in the league after seven games however, have suffered defeat in the FA Cup which came at the hands of Hartpury almost a month ago.

Chalford vs Almondsbury (Chalford Sports and Social Club, Saturday September 14th, 3pm)

Sharpness vs Quedgeley Wanderers (Hamfields Leisure Centre, Saturday September 14th, 3pm)

Two fantastic games in the Gloucestershire County League in which results could have implications on Chalford, Almondsbury and Sharpness at the top of the table.

It’s 1st v 4th when Chalford host leaders Almondsbury looking to end their 100% record all whilst Ben Powell will also be wanting his side to maintain their unbeaten start to the season.

Sharpness will have one eye on this game as they also look to continue their unbeaten start to the season when they face struggling Quedgeley Wanderers knowing a win could take them to the summit if the result goes their way in the other game.

Not only could results impact league positions for this weekend but also make the Friday September 27th clash between Almondsbury and Sharpness even tastier which is up next for both sides in the league.

Hardwicke vs Longlevens Reserves (Green Lane, Saturday September 14th, 3pm)

To round of the fixtures to watch out for let’s head to the Gloucestershire Northern Senior Division One for a game that will have effects at both ends of the table as Hardwicke take on Longlevens Reserves.

Hardwicke enjoyed a magnificent run in Reg Davis Memorial Cup reaching the semi-finals before losing narrowly to Tredworth Tigers but have struggled for league form which sees them currently in the bottom three, but a win could move them out.

Longlevens are one of five teams tied on 12 points at the top of the table and know a win would keep them in the picture, but Hardwicke will have a spring their step coming off the back of stunning 6-3 win over Lydney Town Reserves.
