Nailsworth Town secured promotion to Stroud League Division Four with a penalty shootout victory over Gala Wilton 3rds, following an entertaining 2-2 draw on Tuesday night.

After a goalless first half, which saw Nailsworth create the better chances it was Gala who struck first – with Machi Russell blasting home inside the opening three minutes of the second 45 minutes.

But the lead didn’t last long, with Dan Gill poking home at the near post from a corner to level almost instantly.

It looked like Nailsworth would win the final when Brad Jones stepped up to convert from 12 yards to put his side ahead, but Nathan Heaven’s beautiful late volley saw the tie locked after 90 minutes.

Nailsworth took advantage in the shootout when Ash Gale saved from Reece Ashton following Josh Cowley’s converted opener.

Jones, Brandon Payton and Jack Bright all scored their penalties for Nailsworth, with Heaven and Chris Stevenson converting for Gala.

It left Sidney Parraque with the crucial penalty and Gale produced another good save to seal the deal for his side and celebrations began.
