The Hellenic League have announced their plans for this season’s run in, including confirming dates for their cup finals and the end of season play-offs.

Over the weekend, the league posted on their website plans to revamp the key dates in the final stages of the season, including allowing the cup finals to be completed by the end of March to allow the sole focus for April/May to be the play-offs for their Premier and Division One sides.

In the post, the league says:

“This new structure allows the league run-in to breathe, gives cup finals the spotlight they merit, and builds a proper sense of occasion right through to the final kick of the campaign.

Because let’s be honest — there is nothing quite like the magic of the cup.

One game. One chance. Form out the window. Heroes where you least expect them. And a story that will be told in the clubhouse for years, usually starting with: “No one gave us a chance…”

One of the main changes is the Wiseman Lighting Floodlit Cup final will now be played in a one off game, and not over two legs – which is how last season’s winners Cirencester Town overcame to lift the cup.

The league have also benefitted from the FA allowing for the play-offs to be concluded in the first week of May, meaning there won’t be a rush to get games completed by a certain date to allow for the play-offs to be completed before some sides had even finished their seasons – which is something that both the league and FA had previously received criticism for.

In the statement, the league say the changes have been made “because the season deserves a proper crescendo. Because finals should feel like occasions, not footnotes. And because the magic of the cup deserves its own moment to shine.”
