GFA Senior Amateur Cup: Glos County League & GNSL dominate Hellenic League sides

The Senior Amateur Cup is cooking nicely this season, after another exciting round of matches this weekend.

In the Northern Section, Broadwell Amateurs, Sharpness, Cheltenham Civil Service and Bibury all recorded home wins against tough opposition to book their places in the Third Round.

Chalford were the victors in our featured game, beating Gloucester City Development on penalties following a 1-1 draw.

In fact, this weekend will be one that those who believe the Hellenic League Division Two is a better means to develop players than the Northern Senior League and County League – with all five Hellenic Reserve/Development sides knocked out.

Other than Chalford, Tredworth Tigers and Frampton United set up a meeting in the next round, beating Cheltenham Saracens Development and Bourton Rovers Development, whilst Brockworth Albion beat Bishops Cleeve Development 5-2 and Smiths Barometrics thumped Tuffley Rovers Development 6-1, at Kayte Lane.

The results saw GNSL/County League run out 5-0 winners in ties, with a combined score of 25-7 for goals. A demolition job.

Elsewhere, Quedgeley clinched a great 4-2 win at Woolaston, whilst fellow County League side Ruardean Hill Rangers thrashed Cheltenham Civil Service Reserves 5-0.

It was a mixed afternoon for the rest of the GNSL Division One “big hitters” with Longlevens Reserves 5-1 winners at Harrow Hill, whilst Dursley Town were beaten 4-0 at Whaddon United and Tewkesbury Town suffered a shock 6-3 defeat at the hands of Gloucester City Reserves.

In the Southern Section, there were big wins for County League sides Almondsbury, Filton Athletic, Stoke Gifford United and Henbury & Rockleaze, who scored 31 goals between them!
