Charfield Reserves complete league and cup double following shootout win in Dennis Mason Cup stalemate with Brockworth

Charfield Reserves needed spot kicks to lift the Dennis Mason Cup following a 0-0 stalemate with Brockworth Albion 3rds at Glevum Park on Friday night, writes Sam Yapp.
Charfield had already been crown Stroud & District Football Leagues Div 4 South champions and were looking to complete the league and cup double with victory over Brockworth.
Brockworth started the game the better of the two sides, dominating the early exchanges and came close on 16 minutes when Tyler White’s header was straight at the Charfield goalkeeper, Jacob Havard.
It was Brockworth who almost ran away celebrating six minutes later when a defensive mistake by Charfield allowed Lewis Taylor in on goal, but his chipped effort cannoned back off the post.
It was a half that saw more cut throat challenges from both sides rather than attempts on goal as the sides went into the break goalless.
Charfield’s response to a slow first period was almost an instant deadlock breaker as Tom Cullum saw a one-on-one effort well stopped by Sam Hammond in the Brockworth goal just 24 seconds into the second half.

Cullum went close moments later when he was picked out in the box by Ben Smith, but Cullum could only direct his header the wrong side of the far post.
As the game started to go flat, Brockworth’s Jarvis Randall came close to producing a moment magic almost scoring directly from a corner on 64 minutes.
That was all the action the fans were treated to in the second period as the game remained goalless meaning penalties were needed to crown a new champion
Charfield started the shootout in confident fashion with Jamie Constable firing home before Brockworth ‘keeper, Hammond blazed his spot kick high and wide.
Harry Ellis made it 2-0 on the kicks just about beating Hammond before Taylor got Brockworth back in the competition.
Cullum Glynn rifled the third spot kick home before White stepped up to rattle the crossbar for Brockworth meaning Charfield were one kick away from silverware.
Harvey Bain strolled up and confidently rounded off a perfect round spot kicks as Charfield came away 4-1 winners in the shootout to lift the Dennis Mason Cup and round off the 2024/25 season.
