Chalford moved up to 2nd in the Gloucestershire Northern Senior League Division One table with a 1-0 win over Dursley Town, on Monday night.

Andy Maryon scored the only goal as the two sides cancelled each other out for the best part of the 90 minutes.

Ben Powell’s side remain in the title picture with the win and extend their unbeaten run to 12 games, with their last defeat coming against Smiths Barometrics at the end of December.

The result, alongside Brockworth Albion’s 6-1 win at Bibury, sees Chalford overtake Tredworth – who have a game in hand and are only a point behind, with Albion a point ahead of Chalford at the top of the league.

Both sides have a quick around, with Chalford hosting FC Lakeside and Dursley Town hosting Smiths Barometrics – with both games taking place on Thursday night.

The game started with both sides battling hard to seize the initiative, with Chalford having the first chance as Andrew Roberts volleyed wide from the edge of the box.

On 14 minutes, Chalford took the lead. Ben Minnican’s corner was only cleared as far as Andy Maryon, who smashed home off a Dursley defender to put the hosts ahead.

Maryon nearly turned provider just three minutes later, when his flick on fell for James Keylock, but his half volley was well saved by Ben Jagger.

Jagger’s opposite number, Adam Thomas, then produced an equally good save to turn over Joe Gray’s curling effort.

Both sides had another big chance just before the break, with Harrison Reeves having an effort headed off the line by Luke Benneyworth, before Maryon scuffed an effort wide after James Keylock’s initial effort was blocked.

Ben Minnican and Ryan Harry both fired off-target soon after the break, as Chalford pushed for an all-important second.

Freddie Wilson had the best chance of the final half an hour, with the Chalford sub turning Ryan Outram’s cross wide at the near post.

Chalford and Dursley have five and six games left of their campaigns, respectively, with Dursley’s title hopes faded after Monday’s result.
