“All about mindset” – Williams calls on Gloucester City to avoid complacency against Hartpury

Ed Williams believes he and his Gloucester City teammates need to adopt the right mindset if they are to advance in the FA Trophy, as they head to Hartpury this weekend.
Williams joins us on Saturday morning’s Buttee’s For Breakfast show where he spoke to Butler about Saturday’s FA Trophy tie as well as a start that has seen City win six of their first nine league matches – although Williams admits there is still more to come from his side.
“I think we’ve started well, but also that we have more levels to go to,” Williams admitted. “We’ve played well in a lot of games now and I think we’ve probably been the better side in the games that we have played, with just one or two times falling on the wrong side of the result.
As well as other teams in the league, we are still working it out. We’re quite a new team with a lot of new players and we’re working out each others strengths and all the rest of it as a new team does.
But from what I’ve seen in training for example, the lads that we’ve got and are coming back from injury, I feel that we have got levels to go to.
I think we went up a level against Farnham, that was really good game for us, unfortunately only coming away with just a draw, but I definitely feel it, if we can reach those higher levels then there will be no problem this season,” added Williams.

Saturday’s game sees Williams and the likes of King Baidoo heading back to Hartpury as former students to take on former City midfielder Chris Knowles’ side and speaking on the breakfast show, Williams says he is looking forward to playing the current crop of Hartpury talent.
“It’s going to be great going back to Hartpury and seeing some familiar faces, but it will be a strange one as well.
They didn’t have a Saturday team when I was there, so to be playing against their team is going to be really enjoyable and something I’m looking forward to,” said the midfielder.
The Tigers enter the Trophy at the Third Qualifying Round for the second season in a row knowing they haven’t survived two rounds of the tournament for thirteen out of the last fourteen seasons and going into Saturday’s game, Williams has called on his side to approach the game in the right mindset.
“These games are all about mindset and if we are on it then you’d like to think there would be no issues,” stated Williams.
“But it’s having that mindset and you see it throughout football where the underdogs win through more endeavour and we know that very well at Gloucester City the amount of times we’ve been on the wrong end of them.
So it’s massive and we will be drumming that home and Daf [Williams] will be making sure that doesn’t happen and we are all on it,” Williams added.
