Folkes, Prior & Langworthy nominated in Severn Sport End of Season Awards 21/22

Brimscombe & Thrupp’s Sam Folkes, his manager Sam Prior and Fairford Town striker Ross Langworthy are the latest nominees in the Severn Sport End of Season Awards 21/22.

Yesterday we announced that four Stroud League sides and two sides from the Cheltenham League were nominated in the Team of the Season category in the awards

Folkes is nominated in the Signing of the Season category having joined Brimscombe & Thrupp in the summer having moved to the area.

The former Bristol Manor Farm man went on to put in a number of eye-catching performances and claimed the AthElite Sport Player of the Month award for March on his way to 34 appearances all over the pitch for his side.

Sam Prior is up for Manager of he Season after a season that saw Brimscombe fly out of the traps before an inconsistent second half of the season saw their title bid falter.

Prior missed a couple of games over Christmas after the sudden passing of his father, but he returned to lead his side to the GFA Trophy final, where Brimscombe were beaten by AEK Boco.

Fairford Town’s Ross Langworthy is the final player shortlisted for Player of the Season, sponsored by Severn Sparks. after scoring 27 goals in 43 appearances this season for his side, without which they would have been in trouble before a turn of fortunes around Christmas.

Langworthy was the third highest Gloucestershire based scorer in the Hellenic Premier and every goal was crucial.

Severn Sport’s Ryan Butler has given his thoughts regarding the latest nominees for the 2021/22 awards:

Sam Folkes has been impressive all season and was always going to be in and around the awards somewhere.

I messaged Sam Prior the other day and asked where Folkes was signed from or more information regarding where he used to play etc and his reply of “I don’t know, he moved to the area and just came along” was not what I was expecting.

Folkes has played in a number of positions for the Lilywhites and with players like Ed Major initially not involved at the start of the season, his acquisition was a very handy one!

Ross rounds up the nominees for the Player of the Season and rightly so. His goals, in particularly during the first half of the season, played a factor in why Fairford remained competitive, if inconsistent.

He has been one of the best strikers in the league for a while now and he is a big asset to Fairford going forward. Jamie Reid will be desperate for his talisman to stay on at Cinder Lane this season.

Sam Prior had to be shortlisted for Manager of the Season, for me. Anyone who has suffered the loss that he has this season and continued to show face, continued to remain positive for his team and continues to show the love and passion for the game like he has and does, deserves the acknowledgment.

I have built up a good friendship with Sam over the years and for him to still be doing the above speaks massive volumes about him as a man, let alone as a manager.

Check back on as we will be announcing nominees for the End of Season Awards 21/22 EVERY DAY IN MAY!
