Cheltenham Saracens to face Tuffley Rovers in Severn Sport Shield Final after five star display

Cheltenham Saracens will take on hosts Tuffley Rovers in the final of the 2019 Severn Sport Shield after coming from behind to beat Longlevens 5-2 at Glevum Park.

The game started with both sides getting a foothold in the match, until Brad Martin headed home from a Harry Emmett corner to give Longlevens the lead on 8 minutes.

Saracens, who started slower than their counterparts were fortunate to only be a goal down when Longlevens centre back Ed Smyllie sent his header crashing off the crossbar – Levens were causing problems from their set pieces.

A crucial 90 seconds saw Saracens equalise through Jordan Bryan, moments after Longlevens should have doubled their lead. After a quick throw in from Elliot Kennedy, Martin swept the ball square to Kieran Smart. Smart decided to try and round Charlee Cook in goal instead of shooting and was stopped by the keeper.

Sarries went down the other end and after neat and intricate passing on the left hand side, Bryan found himself on one on and confidently dispatched his effort past the on-coming Kane Winman.

On the half hour mark Saracens took the lead when Bryan was slipped in down the right hand side of the box, Winman got a hand to the effort but the shot was too hot to handle.

As the first half wore on Cheltenham improved by the minute and by half time were the better side.

Eight minutes into the second half and the Hellenic Division One West side extended their lead through substitute Liam Brignull, who fired past Ash Wintle from the best part of 25 yards.

Ellis Waugh came off the bench for Longlevens to bring the Hellenic Premier side back into the game with his second goal in as many nights in the competition. Brad Martin should great presence of mind to lay the ball square to the trialist, who finished so calmly.

With 20 minutes to go all hope for a Longlevens comeback were dismissed when Fin Brown was adjudged to have handled the ball in a goalmouth scramble.

Brown was given a red card and Kai Mahon stepped up to tuck the penalty home, in off the post, to make it 4-2.

A late Jamie Hammond strike made it 5-2 to Saracens, who will now face Tuffley for the Severn Sport Shield on Saturday afternoon. Longlevens will take on Gloucester City U18s in the early game on Saturday lunchtime.
