Fairford Town have completed the signing of winger Aidan Bennett from Southern League side Cirencester Town.
Robins manager Jody Bevan confirmed the transfer after Fairford Town’s 4-0 defeat in the FA Vase at Bitton on Tuesday evening and after attempting to bring the Centurions forward in during the summer, he couldn’t hide his delight at finally getting his man.
“I’m absolutely delighted to get a player of Aidan’s quality,” Bevan said. “He’ll fit perfectly into our changing room and his strength and desire will bring an added boost to an already potent frontline.
It’s a big move for him as he has been at Cirencester his whole career, but it’s testament to everything that we have been trying to build over the last couple of years that he feels that Fairford is the best place for him to kick on and enjoy his football again.”
Bennett joins a forward line including prolific striker Connor Thompson and wingers Harvey Scholes, Ben Lodge and Mason Thompson – who have all contributed from wide positions to complement Connor Thompson’s goals and is the second experienced man to join from Cirencester this season – after defender Ellis Dunton moved to Cinder Lane in the summer.
Bevan confirmed that new signing Bennett will be straight into the matchday squad for Fairford’s Hellenic Premier fixture at home to Ardley United on Saturday.
The game gives the Robins a chance to put Tuesday’s defeat behind them and Bevan expects another tough test for his side.
“Ardley are almost the opposite of Bitton, they have a very young side that like to play good football. It will be a different test for us and we should not underestimate them,” Bevan said.
