The Severn Sport Team of the Month includes players that have stood-out in the featured games during the previous month.
In May, we saw 8 games as the season came to a close – with cup and title wins taking place. And they were:
Friday 1 May – Stonehouse Town 0-1 Malmesbury Victoria
Saturday 2 May – English Bicknor 1-2 Longlevens Reserves
Monday 4 May – Farnham Town 5-1 Gloucester City
Wednesday 6 May – Tredworth Tigers 0-3 Longlevens Reserves
Thursday 7 May – Gloucester City U18s 1-0 Hereford Pegasus U18s
Friday 8 May – Minety Reserves 5-0 Barnwood United 3rds
Tuesday 12 May – Quedgeley Wanderers 0-1 Chalford
Wednesday 13 May – Longlevens Reserves 2-0 Wessex Wanderers
Check out this month’s XI below:
Goalkeeper – Jack Sargeant (Longlevens Reserves) – What an incredible month for Sargeant. Making crucial saves in the win against Bicknor, a stunning stop in the win against Tredworth and then an outstanding display in the play-off game against Wessex Wanderers. He has laid down a huge marker for next season by becoming very reliable in between the sticks.
Right Back – Ryan Baines (Gloucester City U18s) – Baines played right back and was reverted to left back towards the end in a great defensive showing from the Young City side. He showed the tenacity and attitude you want from your players in a cup final and what I like about him, is he gives a bit of attitude – as it showed with the scenes at full time.
Centre Back:- Luke Kavanagh (Longlevens Reserves) – To win the GNSL title you need a mixture of hungry, young players and the experienced players who those players can lean on and learn from and Kavanagh has done that impeccably well this season. He has had to play alongside a number of different centre back partners, but most frequently the young prospect Toby Boakes and the biggest compliment I can give Kavanagh is that Boakes is improving just from playing alongside him.
Centre Back – Uriah Townsend (Chalford & Gloucester City U18s) – It is always quite tough when people ask me about Townsend – well it had been. A lot of the season I have seen him come off the bench or just slapped at right back to do a job and I felt like I hadn’t seen the real Uriah. Fast forward to him coming on to help win the Severn Sport Cup for City and then producing an incredibly impressive centre back performance against Quedgeley, yeah, I see the hype around the lad.
Left Back – Kieran Moore (Chalford) – Kieran Moore had already impressed in April when watching Slimbridge U18s win the CYFL, but sometimes it is hard to translate being good at U18s level into men’s football, particularly a league like the County League. Similar to Townsend, it was very hard to not be impressed with the way he went about his business at Quedgeley and will be one to watch over the next couple of seasons, for sure.

Right Wing – Jam Dare (Stonehouse Town) – What an exceptional season for Jam Dare. He has been incredible for Stonehouse and helped fired them into the play-off and County Cup finals and in the defeat against Malmesbury, he was by far the most likely player in a black and white shirt to make something happen. Always impressive, always quality.
Centre Midfield – Jakson Thomas-Phillips (Gloucester City U18s) – The match winner and Man of the Match in the Severn Sport Cup final and a player that probably hasn’t quite received the plaudits he should have done over the season. One of the most creative players for City U18s and a player with a bright future if he continues to improve as much as he has throughout the season.
Centre Midfield – Rio Spencer (Longlevens Reserves) – In a title run in you need your players to step up and whilst Rio wasn’t quite at his best in the win at Bicknor, he then produced a decent enough performance against Tredworth, before a great showing in the game against Wessex. Scoring the crucial second goal from the spot and it capped off a terrific final couple of months of the season for the midfielder.
Left Wing – Callum Tye (English Bicknor & Gloucester City U18s) – Anyone who listened to the End of Season awards show will know how much I rate Callum Tye. Fifth in the Live Player of the Season, in the Live XI of the Season and caps off the season with a well deserved spot in the May Team of the Month. As solid as ever for City U18s in the Severn Sport Cup final and playing his role (alongside the rest of his Bicknor side) of party poopers against Longlevens – which included a well taken equaliser at the time.
Forward – Beau Hicks (Minety Reserves) – When I turned up to Glevum Park for Minety Reserves vs Barnwood United 3rds in the Stroud League play-offs, I didn’t know what to expect. Beau Hicks rocked up and scored a superb hattrick to put his side on their way to promotion, but his overall game was eye-catching. In the second half in particular, he allowed himself to get a bit of a kicking to win free kicks and continue to break up the game. Barnwood just didn’t have an answer for a total performance.
Forward – James Barnett (Longlevens Reserves) – James Barnett continues to be the best signing Longlevens have made in a while. Having been part of a Longlevens First Team that are pretty established in the Hellenic Premier now, he is now in the Reserves and has become a goal scoring machine. A crucial opener at Bicknor, two in the final league game against Tredworth and then an exceptionally well taken opener in the play-offs. Will be a huge player for Levens Reserves next season.
Here is the XI in full:

The subs bench includes 7 players to impress over the month and in full, they are below:
Luke Wilson (Minety Reserves)
Leimar Dinnall (Stonehouse Town)
Alex Knight (Longlevens Reserves)
Lewis Vye (Gloucester City U18s)
Reuban Barney (Tredworth Tigers)
Craig Mills (Chalford)
Reshay Nembhard (Gloucester City U18s)
This month’s team will be managed by Longlevens Reserves duo Craig Martin & Ben Symons after securing the GNSL Division One title and a win in their play-off game, with Frampton United’s departing Manager Lee Driver-Dickerson going close as well.

The Severn Sport Team of the Month will be back in August – with the Severn Sport Player of the Month – sponsored by Cirencester Carpet Centre returning today, with the shortlist revealed later on this afternoon
