Slimbridge slumped to a sixth game without a win following their 2-0 defeat to Thornbury Town at Thornhill Park on Tuesday night, writes Sam Yapp.
Second half strikes from Cam Drew and Sam Mosley secured Thornbury’s first victory over Slimbridge since 2008 and first ever in the Hellenic League Premier.
Slimbridge remained with just a single win in 2025 so far after as they extended their winless run to six games.
It took until the 16th minute to see the first effort on goal, and it came Thornbury’s way as Will Fowler saw his distanced strike cannon back off the bar and bounce the wrong side of the goal line.
The first 45 lacked much attacking action with Slimbridge’s closest effort coming on 28 minutes when debutant, Frank Parker-Delves, saw an effort whistle just wide of the top corner.
A polar opposite start to the second half saw Joe Shutt strike Slimbridge’s first attempt on target but Adam Clark, in the Thornbury goal, did well to beat the effort away on 53 minutes.
Straight down the other end Thornbury broke the deadlock as Cam Drew finished off a deadly counter attack striking high past the Slimbridge goalkeeper Travis Wood.
That sparked a period of dominance from the visitors with Fowler testing Wood one-on-one on 61 minutes before Drew saw a rifled near post effort superbly tipped behind by the Swans’ ‘keeper a minute later.

Slimbridge started to grow back into the game and were denied an equaliser by an outrageous low, point blank range stop by Clark seeing off a flicked Callum Dark effort on 69 minutes.
Callum Chalmers had two late chances to kill the game for Thornbury but on both occassions was denied by fantastic blocks by Charlie Hitchings and William Nsangou-Djiaha.
Moseley almost doubled Thornbury’s lead on 87 minutes but dragged his opportunity inches wide of the far post.
But, after a lengthy period of stoppage time due to a Chalmers injury, Mosley secured all three points when he pounced on a misplaced pass to drive forward and bury his effort low past Wood.
Thornbury moved up to 15th in the Hellenic League Premier, three points behind Slimbridge (14th) whilst also opening an 18 point gap on the drop zone.
Slimbridge are in Challenge Trophy action next Tuesday night as they travel to Shortwood United whilst Thornbury host Cirencester Town on Saturday.
