Gloucester City ran out 9-0 winners over SGS Olveston United Women at a very wet Tigerturf Stadium to remain at the top of the table after playing eight games, writes Abi Harding.

Goals from Taite Scheafer, Sachi Kaneko-Grun, Lucabella Davis, Laina Warren, Mirry Smith and Nalani Lasmarias secured the three points for the home side.

The game started fast, with Gloucester City scoring two in quick succession before the 10-minute mark.

The first goal was scored by Scheafer, who slotted her effort past O’s keeper Charity Morris at the second time of asking after Warren’s cross deflected into her path.

A few minutes later, it was two, Kaneko-Grun running through the Olverston defence before slotting her effort cooly into the bottom left corner.

It was soon three, Kaneko-Grun beating her marker before putting it on a plate for Davis, who made no mistake and converted her teammates’ cross.

Visitors’ keeper Morris then made some crucial saves to keep her side in it, denying Kaneko-Grun and Davis from getting their second goals of the afternoon.

Despite Morris’s efforts, Warren grabbed a fourth before halftime, her strike nestling into the bottom right corner to give her side a 4-0 advantage going into the break.

Much like the first half, it didn’t take the hosts long to score, Kaneko-Grun once again running in behind and poking her effort home.

She soon completed her hattrick and made it 6-0 with half an hour left to play on the clock.

A minute later, it was seven and Kaneko-Grun got her fourth, beating the visitor’s defence for pace once again and slotting home.

Smith then joined in on the action, latching onto the end of a through ball and finishing emphatically into the bottom left corner to increase the deficit to eight.

The game had to stop after the eighth goal in bizarre circumstances, with O’s keeper Morris walking off the pitch.

As a result of the side having no substitutes, Olveston played on with 10 players, an outfield player putting on the gloves for the last quarter of the game.

City added one more before the full-time whistle, substitute Lasmarias being brought down in the box, and converting the subsequent penalty.

The game ended 9-0 to the hosts, who make the trip to face Bath City next weekend, whilst Olveston host St Valler Ladies.
