Dursley Town u18s secured their fifth successive win overcoming local rivals Slimbridge u18s 2-1 at Rednock on Thursday night in the Cheltenham Youth Floodlit League, writes Sam Yapp.

In a game that lacked much quality it was Dursley who opened the scoring in bizarre fashion when stand in Swans goalkeeper, Zak Jones, punched a clearance against Joey Spill before it rolled into an empty net on 27 minutes.

Dursley had the chance to double their lead on 65 minutes from the penalty spot, but Charlie Nash’s spot kick was well saved by Jones.

The hosts did manage to find a second goal and secure the three points on 94 minutes when Jake Hogg beat the offside trap to cooly chip the ball over Jones.

But the Swans finally got a deserved goal, albeit a consolation, just a minute later when Josh Barclay poked a loose ball past Dursley shot stopper Matt Adkins.

The victory saw Dursley record five wins in-a-row in all competitions and at home whilst also going level on points at the top with Bishops Cleeve u18s.

The young Swans wait for a first league win continues following their first ever defeat to the young Dursley side.

The only other clear chance of the first period came for the Swans on 34 minutes when Kieran Bennett cut onto his right foot before driving an effort towards the top corner, but Adkins was on hand to tip it over at full stretch.

The Swans came out for the second period with more intent and were denied an equaliser on 50 minutes by two fantastic blocks on the six-yard box, first by Charlie Lewis then Billy Mann.

Five minutes later Marley Johnson feed through Shamar Thomas, who hard charged from his own half, but the centre half could only drag his effort across the face of goal.

Ewan Champion had a close ranged effort well smothered by Adkins on 75 minutes before Jones had to smother a Spill close range effort after Bennett had poorly misplaced a pass moments later.

Slimbridge will be hoping to pick up their first league of the season on Tuesday October 22nd when they host Shortwood United u18s at Thornhill Park whilst Dursley play their sixth straight home match, this time against Bourton Rovers u18s on Thursday October 24th.
