Spill bags fine hattrick as Dursley blow away Tuffley to advance in Severn Sport Floodlit Cup

Joey Spill’s clinical hat-trick helped Dursley Town U18s ease past Tuffley Rovers U18s 5-1 in the Severn Sport Floodlit Cup at Rednock on Thursday night, writes Sam Yapp.

Town enjoyed a relentless first half burying the tie in the first 40 minutes thanks to braces from Spill and Theo Browne.

Spill got the ball rolling inside five minutes when he followed up an Alfie Poskett parried 18-yard driven effort to calmly slot home from close range.

Rovers tried to make a game of it on 11 minutes when, with their first chance oof the game, Harlie Mustoe lofted a ball into the area finding Omarion Harrison who headed down towards goal, but it was given a helping hand over the line by Marshall Cameron.

Town continued to grow and on 26 minutes retook the lead when a long ball caught the Rovers backline out allowing Browne to drive on goal and fire low past Drew Oliver.

Eight minutes later Spill had his brace when Weyman capitalised on the Rovers players stopping, expecting a foul, by feeding through Spill who rounded Oliver and thumped the ball into an empty net.

And the tie was all but won on 38 minutes when Alfie Freeman dragged a low cross along the 18-yard box finding Browne who took one touch before drilling a slightly deflected effort home for 4-1.

The second period saw little action away from Spill sealing his hattrick on the hour mark when he was slipped through neatly by Poskett before rolling the ball across goal and into the bottom corner.

Town extended their home unbeaten run to five games and made it four straight wins in all competitions whilst Rovers suffered back-to-back defeats on the road for the first time since March.

The host could’ve had found the net on a few more occasions if not for the woodwork being the way, starting on 12 minutes when Poskett tried a dipping effort from nearly 20-yards, but it rattled the bar.

Browne had his chance of a hattrick denied by the bar on 32 minutes when he followed up his own blocked effort but put too much lift on his effort and saw it clip off the top of the bar.

Town prepare for fifth straight home game on Thursday October 17th when they host a local derby against Slimbridge U18s whilst Tuffley return to Glevum Park on Tuesday October 15th when they face Bourton Rovers U18s.
