Relatives of Olympic Sprinter and Gloucester City midfielder sign for Lydney Town

Lydney Town have added Dillan Campbell and Lewis Pinchard to their ranks, with more potential arrivals to come, in a bid to improve their fortunes.

Lyd are yet to taste a league victory yet this season, and after decent draws against Tuffley Rovers and Worcester Raiders – they have lost the last two in all competitions, scoring zero and conceding eleven in the process.

But with the season so early, the club are looking to bring in reinforcements across the pitch and have started by bringing in the two attack minded players.

Pinchard, related to Gloucester City’s Harry and Zac, is no stranger to Swan Road, though, having been on loan at the club last season – however, following his release from Bristol Rovers in the summer, he now signs on a permanent basis.

Campbell, 20, joins the club from Abergavenny Town having previously been part of youth setups at Cardiff City, Swansea City and Newport County.

The winger is the son of former British Olympic Sprinter, Darren Campbell MBE, and he made his debut for the club off the bench in the 7-0 defeat at Hartpury University last midweek.

The duo will look to bolster a Lydney attack that generated eight goals in their first four games in all competitions this campaign – and with more new recruits set to join the club, Lydney will be hoping they can bounce back following the last two tough results.

Campbell and Pinchard will be hoping to join fellow new signing Dan Brain in the goals, with the midfielder scoring in both league and cup so far this season, since joining from fellow Forest-side, Cinderford Town.

Lydney know that early points will be crucial this season, with the bottom two sides set to be relegated from the Hellenic Premier this season.

Last season, Lyd finished six points clear of bottom placed Wantage Town, having won three games after Christmas – but they know that it was their five wins in the first half of the season that gave them a buffer as Wantage toiled.

Lydney’s next five games look tricky, though, with their midweek home game against Westfields postponed due to Fields being in FA Cup replay action – meaning their next five games are all away from home.

A Bank Holiday Monday trip to Slimbridge is followed up with a trip to newly promoted side, SC Inkberrow, on 3 September.

Further trips to Roman Glass St George, Thornbury Town and Pershore Town follow – with Lydney looking to recreate their FA Cup win over Thornbury when they head to Munday Playing Fields.
