West Football fixtures – Saturday 24 and Sunday 25 February 2018

In the last seven days we have seen some great football action in the region. Bishop’s Cleeve bagged four on Tuesday night, as did Brimscombe and Thrupp. Gloucester won their third in a row at Wealdstone on Monday night and Longlevens saved a late point at home last Saturday.

Add to that our trip to Quedgeley Wanderers last Saturday in which Chris Gooch’s side couldn’t quite get over the line against Cam Bulldogs, our excitement ahead of another weekend’s fixtures is at fever pitch.

Our featured game this weekend sees a Tuffley Rovers side looking to build momentum in the Hellenic Premier welcome Ascot United to Glevum Park.

Manager Mark Pritchett expects a very different affair from the last meeting between the two sides, when they played out a 1-1 draw in November.

Elsewhere in the Hellenic Premier, Lydney Town manager Mark Lee is hoping to turn the Recreation Ground into somewhat of a fortress as his side aim to take advantage of their games in hand to climb the table.

Lydney currently sit just above the relegation zone but with the visit of Binfield tomorrow afternoon, it represents a good opportunity for Lee’s side to make a statement and pull away from the bottom two.

Despite rescuing a point at home last weekend, Mark Moore’s Longlevens were powerless to resist a clinical performance by Brimscombe and Thrupp on Tuesday night as they were dumped out of the Bluefin Sports Supplementary Cup.

However, ‘Levens boss Mark Moore has backed his side to rediscover their winning touch when they make the trip to Highmoor Ibis this weekend.

On the subject of Brimscombe, Sam Prior has called upon his team to emulate their performance from Tuesday night at Brackley Town Saints this weekend, stopping to heap praise upon Sam Blackie’s development as the season has gone on.

Also in the West, Fairford Town have enjoyed a resurgence from the side that looked destined for the drop at the start of the season.

Having won their last two at home, including a 4-0 drubbing of Royal Wootton Bassett Town, Jody Bevan has praised his side for a visible turnaround in performances at Cinder Lane.
