The bad weather over the festive period saw the end of some games across the county and country with waterlogged and frozen pitches but on Boxing Day Gloucester City were gifted an early Christmas present when the weather was finally on their side!
In 2007 the weather caused massive flooding across the county making the Tigers homeless and still to this day in exile from their City. More recently City got to the 1st round of the FA cup for the first time in 20+ years and were to face League 1 outfit Leyton Orient on a weekend bringing much needed tv money and a large crowd, the weather struck again when the heavens opened and caused a waterlogged Whaddon Road pitch.
Boxing Day 2014 will go down in history as the day the weather was with the Tigers! The score was Gloucester City 1-1 Brackley Town with the visitors down to 10 men and the pitch getting worse and worse with the repeatedly falling rain it looked like the Tigers would miss out on a much need 3 points.
But In to the final 2 minutes of injury time at the end of the game Bristol Rovers loanee Jamie Lucas got himself in to the Brackley penalty area and neatly tucked a ball past Farrell in the Town goal only for the ball to get stuck in the mud on the goal line, this time though, the weather was not against the Tigers as the yellow and black shirt of Joe Parker was following in to poke it millimetres over the muddy goal line! The goal gave City the win and leapfrogged them out of the relegation zone in the conference North.
